247 podcast talks of JG transfer

I could see JT Shrout going back home and transferring to San Diego State,UCLA or California
Shrout isn’t going anywhere. I’ve heard through the grapevine that he has a serious girlfriend that also attends UT. In fact if I’m not mistaken it’s the girl that got injured from the softball team last year.

JG already took his redshirt in his 1st season.

I think it's unlikely that JG leaves mid-season anyway. He may, indeed, end up transferring at the end of the year. If he does, he might go somewhere like UTEP with Mike Canales. Feel like JG did better with Canales because JG is pretty solid on the QB fundamental stuff; the things he needs to work on are leadership and communication. Those are tougher to teach but I think Canales was very good with that.

I'm curious if JG could work out as a WR.

That would be ironic, especially if he wound up with a QB who struggles reading defenses and misses wide open receivers too. 😯

Garbage time? The whole game has been garbage time. If not for BM leading the 3rd qtr drive we would have been SHUT THE **** OUT by Florida. Let that sink in.
In JGs defense he would’ve lead a couple scoring drives as well if JJ had caught the ball and a fumble didn’t take place in the red zone.

IMO, I think Pruitt put in Maurer to make a point that he needs to get it together. I believe he never had any intention of keeping Maurer in and I think he will stick with JG unless it gets way worse.

ya know, I feel like what bugs me most about JG is that people recite his high school ranking all the time as an excuse for why he should be good..

He played against bad competition and only attempted 400 passes his entire high school career. Brian Maurer for example threw 1000. How does someone who throws so little and show no real threat to keep the ball get ranked so highly?

If you'd like to see other big busts through the years, go look at the QBs who have attended the elite 11 camp over the years.

If JG wants to leave because of a mess he helped create. I will personally drive my hide to Knox, roll red carpet to the gray hound, buy the damn ticket...

s'like those old Bugs cartoon where he's mailing the Pig to Timbuctoo. i'm good with this.

Folks need to be careful what they wish for. This is the same crap we keep going through with coaches.... we want JG gone but we don't have anyone better to replace him. In fact from what we have actually seen the guys behind him are substantially worse. I don't know what kinda ghosts you guys saw but I have seen nothing making me want either of the other 2 guys in for anything other than garbage time.

Putting those guys in for this next 3 game stretch is insane. Because they will be ruined. Right now best case scenario for the next 3-4 games is maybe 1 win. That was true even before the season preseason Missisippi state was seen as a W and USCe was a tossup. Best case scenario even preseason UGA and Bama were big losses. Those are not teams you give your young guys their first or second starts against if you have a choice and we have one. Like it or not JG is better than terrible.

Funny story. Thus far this year JG is on pace to better his stats from last year. his rating is actually higher right now 147.2 vs 141 last year. he has already thrown 7 TDs in 4 games vs 12 total last year and 736 yards vs 1907 last year completion percentage 64.5 vs 62.2 last year. he is on pace for 2208 yards 21td's and 12 ints great numbers? no but not terrible. I would bet he actually beats those numbers if he is allowed to play out the year because JJ is quietly Beasting (on pace for almost 900 yards and 12tds) and we know what JJ does to UGA
You don’t know that. The back ups haven’t been prepared. If the two freshman were taking quality reps and the coaches had made this an actual competition dating back to spring, who knows how they’d look now. Hard to look your best when you go in with a 17 point on the road. Although Trask did that very thing and looked like a world beater.

Being able to make a basic pre-snap read is pretty fundamental at the SEC level though, and he can't do it.

The thing that sucks for JG is that I wonder if his growth/progression are permanently stunted because of his experience at Tennessee. We know he didn't get great coaching under the Butch regime, and since Butch left he's seen 2 more OCs. There's little doubt Chaney knows what he's doing, but remember he said he was "throwing everything" at JG this offseason. The dude just has to be totally overwhelmed by his time here; he's seen 4 different offensive styles with different verbiages, etc. Chaney in particular is probably asking him to do some advanced (for him) things.

He's got to play better, but it also is little wonder why he plays like he has no idea what he's doing. He can't be a leader, because he doesn't know what he's doing himself.
Yeah I feel for the guy. He didn’t sign up for this shitshow.

Was mentioned on the podcast that JG May transfer if they move on to the freshman. I wouldn’t be surprised if JG was named the starter next week and bring in the other guys. At minimum, you don’t want JG transferring NOW and shutting it down taking a redshirt year and leaving the team. The other fallout is if one of the freshmen ball out with a stronghold, the other QB will transfer as well.

Keep JG involved, I can see him transferring after the season which is a much better situation than doing it now. I’d say bringing in a 2nd QB in this class seems wise as well, just the way QBs are going/leaving right now.

How would you try to keep all 3, and all 3 pacified?
Who really cares. Whether he stays or leaves, they're still gonna be pathetic.

that thing that I cant figure out -- HOW was he ranked as a duel threat in HS ? The scouting service must have had a blind man doing the scouting

The really Sad thing is, this goes for many of Tennessee's recruits, so many turn into Busts?
Most of them are Busts, or so it seems

Have you seen him run??? Better yet have you seen his footwork and lateral quickness? The biggest abomination I’ve seen from recruiting services is calling JG a “dual-threat” QB.

He is a dual-threat—on every drop back, there’s a threat of either an incompletion or an interception being thrown.

She's from Cali too, if I'm not mistaken.

Don't hold your breath. He is still the best option and qb we have.

Maybe things change with Bailey.
Not holding my breath and to call him the "best" option is to ignore the fact that he seems to have hit a ceiling well below what it takes to win in the SEC.

You keep avoiding that fact. He's not getting better. The "best" option has become seeing if one of the other two's ceiling is high enough to win some games. If so, you deal with the mistakes and develop them. Four years of attempts to develop JG... have brought us to this. UT had its worst ever season behind him and is poise to do even worse this year unless something changes. He's not a leader and he isn't a play maker. He is late and lacks confidence in his decision making. He doesn't throw receivers open and can be forced to check down even by a D playing relatively loose coverage.

You're a JG fan and not a UT fan. I think we all get that by now. So as a JG fan... you should be rooting for the kid to transfer. Maybe he could go elsewhere, get a new start, gain some confidence, and play like we all wish he had for the Vols. Maybe just dropping whatever baggage that exists between him and his team mates would allow him to blossom as a leader. That's a lot of maybes but probably represents his best shot at becoming a good QB.

If he does somehow make it through this season as the starter... there WILL be an open competition for the job next fall. It could be Maurer, Shrout, or Bailey who comes out on top... it won't be JG. He won't be the best and even if he were there are a ton of reasons for UT to just move on and start over with a fresh new leader.

How could it possibly get any worse? We lost to GSU with him at the helm and could go 1-11. Alternate Shrout and Maurer and build for next year. This is already a throwaway year officially.

QB isn't our only issue, but it is our biggest one.

Shrouts been in the program over a year and Maurer has been with the team since what spring? Have they had the bulk of the snaps with first team? no but trust me if either one showed they deserved the bulk in practice they'd have gotten them. If anything Pruitt has proven he is gonna put the best guy on the field. See Alontae Taylor, Jeremy Banks,, To'o to'o and on and on. There is a reason they brought in the grad transfer from Maryland guys.
