Preview and Predictions

247 gives a good breakdown of the upcoming season.

Points of Note:
-Sledgehammer style of football. Emphasis on run game
-Most likely record is 6-4
-Kentucky going to be tougher than usual because of UGA and Bama scheduling
-QB scenario still a question but Guarantano will start the season.
-Offensive scheme won't rely too much on QB playmaking ability
-Questions/worries on defensive front

I am having a real hard time with the defensive front being a question mark. There are 18 players listed as DL on the Roster, 5 are true freshmen and 2 are on the practise squad. Last year they held their own. What am I missing?

The roster doesn't differentiate tackles from ends, I guess we are lacking pure defensive tackles?
Bring back the Fulmer days of recruiting a ton of DTs, and convert them to OL if they don't cut the mustard.

The DL was not impressive against good teams, but were pretty good against average and sub par teams. Especially towards the end of the year. That’s what worries people,
If we can show consistency through all 10 games then I think we’ve taken a step forward, easier said than done though. I like the guys we have though, just need an alpha dog or two to step up and lead them.

Our D-line couldn't get pressure on Georgia State or BYU, let alone Florida, Bama or Georgia. What am I missing?

You can sum these four points up by just saying our QB sucks LOL

We don't have the horses at RB to run a "sledgehammer" offense in the SEC. I see a ton of 3-and-outs, low scoring games and a ton of pressure on our defense in our future if they are just gonna rely on the run and not rely on JGs arm/decision making or scrabling ability.

I understand last year's d-line performance was subpar, but so was the o-line. I have assumed that with better coaching and a year under their belts that the team has improved across the board. The 2020 team is not the same team as 2019.

It was a diving Emerson, who clipped Tua's ankle effectively removing Tua from the Bama game last year, and that happened behind the line of scrimmage. Thats pressure.

We'll know if the D-line is ready or not, if they can get lined up correctly from play #1. If so, they'll be solid. Like I've been saying, they've been sand-bagging camp, since Garland sat in the transfer portal last year during camp, and practically started game one. We don't need a dominate D-line vs SC, we need the big guns on the D-line ready come week 3 vs Georgia, so we're fine this week.

Taylor. Not tackle

Call me skeptical but I think the d line talk is just a coaching tactic. When you know you have arguably the best o line in the nation, as a coach you’re going to challenge the d line to beat them. If Pruitt can mentally challenge them to get pressure in practice then Saturdays will come easy.

Bold prediction: Palmer will have a Peerless type senior year now that he won’t be overshadowed. He’s got the potential; hopefully he and JG have the chemistry and timing to get him the ball.
