This is a joke if you ask me. No offensive players at all. Only Vols represented are Berry 1st team KR and Barnett 2nd team DE.

Our team gets hype like crazy but none of our players get much individual attention. Hurd is a top 4 RB and leaving Sutton off is just absurd. You could make a strong case for Dobbs 2nd team also.

Not a joke. Yes we get hype... It is hype until you continuously prove it on the field. We have great players and a great team but hard to argue we are the very best at most positions. As a team we will do great this year. Remember, we eat and breathe our players all year long and know them individually. All fan bases are passionate about their individual players. I love each vol player and believe we are going to be awesome this year but I always try to be rational and not get sucked in by the hype train.

Tennessee will always be dissed by media, we don't have the big name coaches, but we do have big names on the field, this is an all American team, its not about individuals and I think this is what CBJ is building, teams win not individuals. I believe this is how he recruits, trying to find the potential in players who want to be developed into better players. The Ohio States and Alabamas bring in these 5*s but they also have 5* problems. If this season turns out the way we all believe it will, the high character players and their families are going to want their sons playing for a coach that develops more than the body, but the mind and character of these young men. I don't see that in Saban, Myers and the Harbaughs of the world. I can point at Oregon and Stanford and say......there you go.......find good young men who want to win on and off the field.

Go Team 120!:rock::clapping:

I don't think it's a big measure of disrespect to get two players on the All-America projection. Hurd, Sutton, Kamara, and Dobbs could do something to get on this list, and Reeves-Maybin has been productive enough in the past to make sense if he keeps on the same trajectory. If Hurd and Kamara get higher numbers I'd expect to see more talk about our linemen, but they weren't exceptional last year (though they did a fine job of run blocking).

Fournette's eye-popping numbers say a lot about his talent, but he was easy to shut down once he faced a defense with enough size to cover the gaps (that is, he could do very little against Alabama). Our offense was never designed to get the kinds of breakaways that got Fournette his numbers, but never went up against a defense that could shut them down completely. If Hurd and Kamara get good but not exceptional numbers this year, that'll be why, and it might make them less marketable as award winners. It'll be way better at winning us games, though!

It's amazing how All-American and All-Conference teams tend to get filled up with players on teams that win championships. It's almost as if the sportswriters picking these composite teams need guidance on where to look, because they can't do it objectively, person-to-person.

Our lads will get the recognition they deserve once we're playing for and winning championships. All the individual accolades will follow.

The All-American selection process starts when kids are in high school. If you enter college as a highly ranked recruit and have a good freshman season while playing for a good team, you're a Freshman All-American and a preseason All-American before your sophomore year. At that point, another "good" season is enough for the pundits to pat themselves on the back and name you an All-American again, even if there were a dozen guys who posted better stats but had less hype/played on a team with a worse W/L record.

It is easy because they win on the field.

Trevor Daniel should be in there too. They don't want to put him on there because he is a former walk-on I guess. They want the high profile names on there only I guess.

I think first team all SEC could beat that team straight up. Be a close game, but we could do it. 1st team all conference nearly guarantees being 1st or 2nd rd draft picks these days.

Daniel can't be an all American if he never has to punt.

Team is what will make this season successful. While individual recgoniation would be great, this team needs to learn to win as a team.

Hurd may be among the top 4 RBs but he has to prove it on the field. IMO, his performance (stats) last year fell short of 8-10 comparable backs who are returning (gotta do better than 4.65 ypc), but he's capable of at least matching their numbers.

OTOH, I think it would be almost impossible to "make a strong case" for Dobbs to be 2nd team based on what he did last year: 56th in total offense per game, 70th in passing efficiency and 78th in passing yards per game. He may be the 2nd-best QB in the SEC (behind Chad Kelly), but nationally? Nope.

Saquon Barkely? Ahead of Hurd, Chubb, Hood? Heck, even ahead of Michel or Gallman.....I don't get that one. Talented kid, just wouldn't put him ahead of those others.

But..........he did punt quite a bit last season & was one of top punters in the country. It's all because he's a walk-on I'm telling you. They do not want to give awards to unknown players. He should be no worse than 2nd Team All-American.

I agree, gotta prove it on the field first. We have many players on the mend of becoming all american's but they've gotta play like it. I really think Hurd, Sutton, Berry, Barnett, C Thomas, maybe Jashon Robertson, Medley, Dobbs, JRM could all be on the mend of becoming all americans. It's going to be an exciting football season that's for sure.
