2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

The numbers keep going up, so the program always needs more. I do believe in the sentiment that the time is now. But, geez, give it a chance. We will spend more this year than ever.

But if you think we can go toe to toe with a couple of these schools every year with booster money, you are misguided. That’s why they use analytics.
I’ll settle for just one year of a true final four budget while Barnes is still kicking. Then they can go hire a journeyman coach and revert back to analytics for the next foray into the basketball wilderness.

You will get Malik Mack as your starting PG and you will like it @TrippieRedd
Oh don't worry...Trippie will love Mack!

A dream

PG: ZZ / Malik Mack / Boswell (RS)
SG: Chaz Lanier / Gainey
SF: Darlingstone Dubar / Carr
PF: Mashack / Phillips
C: Awaka / Aidoo / JP

Not sure on numbers or whatever, but if we have any other spots, I'd get another big. Gainey and Carr get more minutes then step into a starting role the following year imo

It is becoming more evident that Tennessee should have overspent on Boswell, Evans, Estrella and one of Carey/Phillips and spent the other 8-10 million for a quality P5 point guard, additional iso scorer and a rim protecting, athletic big man.
Evans and Estrella, maybe. The others, very replaceable.

I would feel a lot better about where things stand now if those two were still on the team.
Sure, I don't think anyone was actively shewing them out the door. They went out and maximized their value. No shame in that. And no shame in Tennessee believing they can also maximize the value of their dollar. It's business and it's a calculated risk for everyone involved, players and coaches alike.

Absolutely no way to make this call until we find out the portal replacements.

I really wish some of you would learn to step back from the ledge and see how things play out before (over)reacting to every ebb and flow. It’s exhausting to watch.

One thing i’ve come to the conclusion to over the years is some people will always defend Barnes and what he does in the portal NO MATTER WHAT.
We could sign the most mediocre player and miss out on all of our top targets and it would all be according to plan for some. Unreal lol

There’s one list that was posted on here that had him at #3? I’m not a basketball scout nor a portal insider so I don’t have a clue exactly what Michigan paid JP. How r u so certain that it was $3million? We’ve obviously entered crazy season with runaway portal numbers by some at least.

I had a longer reply, but it's too wordy and pointless.

I'm not certain it's 3million, I am however certain that he wasn't just made a top 5 NIL college athlete.

Currently SI only has 4 estimated at that amount.

Arch Manning 6.8mil
Carson Beck 4.3mil
Jeremiah Smith 4.2mil
AJ Dybantsa 4.1mil (only basketball player on the list at all)

I think if you land the 2 known visitors this weekend that changes the look quite a bit, let’s play optimistic for a minute and say they also take CWjr while they’re at it this weekend. That’s 4 freshman, 3 returnees, and 3 portal commits…so you’re sitting at 10/13 positions filled less than a week after the portal opened.

Henderson/Clark
Ames/Burg
Lundblade/Green
Brown/Scott/CWjr
Rubin

That’s obviously not close to a done roster, but it’s got a really nice foundation imo at least…you’d be in clear need of a PG, another top end big ideally, and ideally a 3/4 that can score. Obviously key pieces, but you’d have the bulk of the leg work done allowing you to process your board a bit and narrow in on a few guys.
