Another thing I wondered. Could other coaches pay more for some of our players because of how they have been coached up under Barnes.

Not my intention regardless of the outcome. Portal news is very much fluid, but my buddy felt very confident in what he told me, but the player isn’t in the portal yet. I’d give it 24-48 hrs.

My opinion? We’ve done the leg work to get the guy(s) our staff wants ready to jump. Now we wait for him to dive in and when he does we have to come with a haymaker to make sure no one steals him…the good news is Barnes closes on these guys. If we don’t get a guy it’s bc we were never really in on them. We don’t miss much.

You built your projections around retaining some of these guys I would assume. And it’s going to cost more to bring in comparable guys vs retain them (and gets worse as the options get fewer and fewer). So that could mean less money for the Gilispie and Okpara replacements since you had to pay a few extra million to fill the other big men spots. Either that or you have 7 highly paid guys and a bunch of walkons.

Yeah, I think we’re basically going for your last sentence. We had 13ish players that seemed to be making real money last year so now we are trimming it down to like 8-9

I think the staff was hoping to hang onto Evans, Brown, and Estrella. I don’t think they’re losing sleep over anyone else. Losing Estrella stinks, but we can, and have to do better. As long as we don’t lose Evans and Brown, I think we’re in good shape. Now comes the fun part of building out the roster.

It’s the whole what’s he worth to you verse replacement cost thing, I don’t know their exacts or their views on him as a player, but hypothetical…

If Tennessee views his talents as ideally a 8th-9th man on a Top 5-10 type team, and their assessments say the value for that position on a good team is $1.25m and he’s asking for $2m what do you do? These kids aren’t giving much of a retention discount so far this year, and with underclassmen it gets even cloudier. You aren’t projecting 2-3 years down the road because next off season you’re right back to this, so when just talking next years squad and Evans, what do you project him to be? Can you go out and find a senior from a MM who has experience, isn’t a NBA type, isn’t gonna command starter money from a HM, but is looking to play a role on a top team? Can that player be had for $1.25m and likely match what Evans can give you?

I don’t think he knows any plan outside of the fact they’ve been to 3 straight E8 and trusts the staff is gonna put together another capable roster.

Simply put…

The staff feels like for the prices our outgoing players have asked for they can find better at each price point, simple as that. We’ll ultimately see if that was the correct decision or not, they wanted to improve the overall talent on the roster and feel they can do so with the money that have available.

I agree the timing and pattern is similar. I just can't get past hitting on the Cade Phillips thing out of nowhere. BTO also confirmed he's dead on with the assistant coach replacement names, which I've not seen public anywhere else. Feels like he could be legit and suffering from ToddKirk87 fatigue from others.

And he could be ToddKirk87 reincarnated. We will find out.

Todd Kirk hit on some pretty big news, but he was just real good at scanning all the news and reading the tea leaves.

Edit: I agree he sounds legit, but so did TK. It's just too similar not to be him.
