2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Assuming some departures, Tanner/Lundblade/Dowd + Rice and a backup 5 would be the ideal situation, think that might get too expensive for us. Might mean we lose Carey and one or two of Boswell/Burg/Henderson.

But this is pretty nice, probably still too expensive? I don't even know any more:

Tanner
Rice
Lundblade
Dowd
Estrella
-
Evans
Burg
Brown
Backup 5
-
Henderson
Scott
Green
Clark
-
Walk-on

How many of these kids go to the transfer portal and come back to original school? I would assume once they in the portal, they are gone?

I think they face a potentially lower offer from previous school if they return. Usually returning means the market wasn’t as good as they expected.

Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, but I wonder what some of you would say: if we hypothetically have a $12 mil ceiling for NIL, how much do you think we could justify carving out for a single player? If Tanner is the biggest fish we're likely to pursue, could we justify 5? Based on SF's estimated numbers, the upper range of our projected budget for him would be around 4.8 (based on a hypothetical $12 mil budget, in line with what's being rumored publicly), maybe thinking of 5 as a final offer, just spit balling. If you were holding the purse, would you carve 5 out of a 12 mil budget for Tanner? We've probably already sunk upwards of 2 into Lundblade (guessing).

Good call on not wanting to start another thread - thank you

Yes. It all starts with the pg.

I think the budget will be higher than $12 million, especially if we land him.

FWIW part of me thinks we should be prepared to go as high as 6 for Tanner. If last year is the metric, he's that good. There isn't much mystery in his game; he's the proven real deal. Not to mention - my blind squirrel, unsupported guess is we'll end up closer to 15 in NIL than 12.

Agree. Tanner is a special player. He's well worth 5+.

Offer 3-4. Don’t think Vandy would be willing to spend that much if their budget is lower than ours.

If ours is 12-15, Vandy at most has 10. I don’t think they would pay that when they have to replace 5+ guys. They won’t be buying much after Tanner if they are left with 6mil or so, especially with what some kids are asking these days.

Then if any out of state team wants Tanner then they will have to pay a substantial amount due to taxes helping us out.

I’m hearing our nil budget could go as high as 20 mill if needed . Sounds like they are serious about upgrading to his roster for Barnes

There will be bigger NIL budgets. KY is going to give Pope the moon again, but it comes down to coaching. With the right roster I think our guy gets us over the hump. He’s proven he can do more with less, imagine what he can do with more.

I’m not sure Vandy’s current budget is very high. They didn’t pay Tanner much this year because his value wasn’t that high after his freshman year. Not to say it won’t increase because it will have to, to keep Tanner.
