So far your source was right about Phillips. I’m hoping he is wrong about the other 3. But so far dead on the money so gotta give credit where credit is due.Based on my sources I doubt Evans, Boswell, Estrella or Phillips return unless things drastically change in these current talks.
Coach Barnes is cleaning house sounds likeSo far your source was right about Phillips. I’m hoping he is wrong about the other 3. But so far dead on the money so gotta give credit where credit is due.
I also do understand that these things change hourly if the others don’t end up leaving after negotiations, etc.
It’s a little more nuanced than this. Cade was offered an NIL that reflected second tier size, assumption of playing inside exclusively and the risk of reinjury. He was also told he can make more money in another system where he’s seen as inside/outside, where his size is appropriate in such a role/system, and new teams tend to be more optimistic about injury risk. Each player has a similar analytics driven/team driven assessment. It’s a new approach, but it isn’t necessarily going to run off the players listed. Some have a higher value in NIL and believe they’ll improve draft stock by being here. Some kids on other teams believe they can achieve those things by coming here. The interesting thing we’re doing is giving every player a plan and a number that is grounded in defensible data. How that flies is unknown, but I like the approach. For those discussing Tanner, both sides are right. His dad would like him to stay at Vandy. His dad is a strong influence. His agents and mom believe Tennessee is the road to better money, more well-rounded development. It’s not done in either direction, nor is the NBA ruled out. We will be in on some real dudes, and with real offers and real logic. This is counter to Calipari, Oates, Pope who will just throw wads. The ones we win will be well thought out wins.So far your source was right about Phillips. I’m hoping he is wrong about the other 3. That sounds like a great approach to me, I definitely trust the staff in the roster they will put together at the end of the day. Tanners Dad might be too much to overcome if that’s what it boils down to.It’s a little more nuanced than this. This year that’s probably more like $2.5m vs. $5m, but your point remains…I think it’s a legitimate question to ask for sure, obviously some guys in that middle tier can be misses also though, and a hit on a $5m guy is gonna produce great individual results that maybe 2 guys can’t make up for.I know nothing about what’s happening behind the scenes with the portal season, but I always wonder if it’s best to sink $4+ million into one guy or go for 2 guys in the $2+ million range? Rice was a terrible value for USC due to injury. Ament wasn’t his best at the end of the season due to injury. Very risky putting so many of your eggs in one basket as they say.
Agree to a degree with this., but you also have to have a dude. Someone who puts fear in the other team. It is always going to be a risk getting a high dollar guy. The game is so physical now that the risk is higher than it was 30 years ago when fouls were called.I know nothing about what’s happening behind the scenes with the portal season, but I always wonder if it’s best to sink $4+ million into one guy or go for 2 guys in the $2+ million range? Yeah, I'm not necessarily concerned about him. I was just curious what video Trippie watched that had him concerned that all he did was dunk and that it somehow made him a lot like Phillips. Like I said, they couldn't be more opposite in my mind. The one time he did dunk he looked like Tom Chambers. 2 handed and with bad intentions. I don't think there's anything wrong with his hops
You aren't alone. This is the culture that has surrounded KY basketball for the last 15+ years in the one and done environment. It is sustainable and accepted by many when you live in the Elite Eight. But when you start seeing early exits and fringe tournament teams, it loses its appeal and real quickly.I might be an outlier, but a big part of my interest in UT basketball has been following the players growth and development. Also, I like cheering for guys with high character. If we’re going to have revolving door rosters each season, then much of the appeal to follow the program closely goes out the door for me unfortunately.
Insane that agents are getting away with highway robbery. 20%?!?! Bunch of snake oil salesmen.
Second tier money equals second tier player.I know nothing about what’s happening behind the scenes with the portal season, but I always wonder if it’s best to sink $4+ million into one guy or go for 2 guys in the $2+ million range? He certainly was a cultural fit for CRB so it seems to me they like Estrella,Brown, and perhaps Careys production better but we have to replace Okpara and i hope they get a proven 7 footer that can take us to a FF.

Agreed. Almost has that feel of a fixed beauty pageant.I might be an outlier, but a big part of my interest in UT basketball has been following the players growth and development. If Dowd and Lundblade are our 3rd and 4th best additions then I'm absolutely over the moon. If they are 1 and 2 that would be a major issue. Keep Evans, Brown and 1 of Estrella/Carey plus the freshman. Let's roll.Illinois, UVA, Baylor, and Kansas St wanted Lundblade. Allegedly, Duke wanted him, as well. I'm fine with these two guys being the low end of our transfer haul. If they end up being the crown jewels, something went wrong. I don't believe that will be the end result, though.
