2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

The only problem is its the second contract that's absurd money. Thats why players want to start their NBA clock ASAP.
Most players don’t get a second contract and a lot that do don’t get huge ones. There’s definitely something to be said for taking the bird in the hand. None of that other stuff is guaranteed

Returning:
Burg
Henderson
Brown

Portal:
Lundblade
Ames
Rubin

HS:
Scott
Green
Clark

9 spots of 15 taken as of right now, really think our 2 walk-ons are allowed to remain walk-ons...but if not that'd be 2 spots taken as well 11 of 15

So we have at least 4 spots...potentially 6

I haven’t read anything about Carey taking visits since entering the portal last week, so I’m starting to think he’s returning. Honestly, would prefer he just move on. I wanted to keep Phillips, Estrella, and Evans. I was fine with Carey and Henderson leaving. Kind of funny that they might be the only two to withdraw and return.
I hope he comes back. Right now we are soft and Carey brings that toughness and meanness about him. He played well in the tourney and pretty much unstoppable down low but he has to improve free throw shooting. Plus, he will take up for any teammate that gets punked by another team or hard fouled. Reminds me of Rick Mahorn back in the days before kids became soft and injury prone like today!

I agree. I think he'll go to the draft, but I do not think it's some layup that he's an NBA star and gets a big 2nd contract. He's a lottery long term project pick, not a plug and play star.

I'm listening from about 45 mins behind, but Tony Basilio just had a Freudian slip and mentioned Tyler Tanner by name meaning to say Tyler Lundblade. Wonder why he had Tyler Tanner on his mind???

Watching him try and walk that one back was pretty funny.

Never thought I'd ever, in all my born days, hear the words "Jaylen Carey" and "roster continuity" used in conjunction with one another in the same sentence.
Nice try at comedy.

If you don't think being in the same program for a consecutive year has benefits for everyone involved, we disagree.

I like Carey, but I also have said at the right (lower) price.

Also, you should (in a perfect world) use money to make yourself (and your family) happy, but if you are already extremely happy, and perhaps need a little more experience before you step on the big stage, why not stay where you are and enjoy the experience. Unless you get injured, the money (and more of it) will be waiting next year. It's not like 5 or 6 million is chump change.

That really big NBA check will be there, if and when you grow into that next stage. OK, one year later, but if you have done things right, you will likely make it there in due time.

Obviously, a lot is still unknown, but are you taking Boswell back over Lundblade, Hill, Harris, or Ames? I'm not, and I actually grew to like Boswell a bit. Just not sure he was worth financially what he physically brings to the court. Room for improvement, certainly, but I like what we are in on much better, especially for his position.
I’m not. If it’s him or one of those four I wouldn’t. But I have no clue how likely those guys are.

Plus, I’m always gonna be biased towards retaining guys just because I like to see guys grow in the program

Good lord, chill out. It was a joke about Carey being at different schools, not a shot at you or your opinion on him.

That's fair. I also believe there is some benfit in roster continuity, but we are at a point where nobody has that luxury, so I don't know that it hurts us all that much to be rebuilding 80% of the roster.

Carey is a cheap depth piece with experience in the system and league. Not sure why you wouldn’t want him back.

There’s only 4 spots left on the roster. Assuming Chris Washington Jr also commits, that leaves 2 spots left and the front court in general would be lacking. I don’t think he’s a fit unless you make room.

Who's going to be our main PG? This part kinda worries me.

To be clear, I just mean I enjoy watching the team more when it’s the same guys there over the years. Wasn’t referring to the competitive benefits of roster continuity

Agreed. In a different day and time, you definitely want him back, but when there are proven guys out there, no way you take (some) potential over that. I hope he goes and makes a big paycheck somewhere, and then proves the doubters wrong, but I would rather go with more of a sure thing.

Free throws. Maybe lack preparation in the past (as a predictor of the future). Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

I'm luke warm to him coming back. Moreso, if his buddy from Vandy comes with him.

Agree completely. I’d have also liked to keep Boswell around but seem to be in the minority on that front, at least on here
I'd like to keep Boswell around as well. Huge leap forward last year for him. If he could improve just half that much this year he would be huge for us.
