Burg is an inexpensive rolw player with experience. I don't think he is leaving unless he wants to.

SWC, you’ve been all over this one for weeks now. What’s the timeline look like as far as him making a decision? Obviously the portal period and draft declaration period isn’t a perfect line - I believe the deadline isn’t until late May for the NBA. Apologies if you’ve said something about this in the past.
I have to be annoyingly vague. It's worth getting your hopes up

Tanner's size is a liability in the NBA, and that will prevent him from getting much lottery consideration in a very talented and top heavy 26 NBA draft. Next year's class is weaker, and he may be better positioned in that draft. Kennedy Chandler is a similar story, and we see how that turned out. He'll be able to make more money this year in college than the bottom of the first or second round pick contract he'd get from the NBA this year.

Markus Burton, Malik Mack, Isaiah Johnson, Kwame Evans & Miles Rubin are names to add to “interest” list, hard to know exactly to what degree right now.

I’ll try to put together a full list this evening that’s a little easier to track and monitor
We seem to be casting a bigger net this year. Of course more spots to fill, but appreciate the new approach.

Mack we were after last time he entered portal, so not a surprise there... I really like Isaiah Johnson and Evans. Evans isn't quite the same size as JP or Felix, but he'll offer a lot more than Carey or Cade on both ends I think. Really good shooting % too probably the closest to a true stretch 4 of any name I've seen. (Dowd being more of a 3/wing type)

Markus Burton - 5'11" JR PG from Notre Dame: 18.5ppg, 3.7apg, 2.8rpg, 1.6spg, 48.9% FG, 30.6% 3PT, 91.7% FT

Malik Mack - 6'1" JR PG from Georgetown: 13.6ppg, 4.1apg, 3.0rpg, 0.9spg, 38.1% FG, 29.8% 3PT, 81.8% FT (his 3PT% previous 2 years was over 34%...just had a bit of a dip this year with less talent around him)

Isaiah Johnson - 6'1" FR PG from Colorado: 16.9ppg, 3.0apg, 2.9rpg, 1.0spg, 48.6% FG, 37.8% 3PT, 82.1% FT

Kwame Evans - 6'9" JR PF from Oregon: 13.3ppg, 7.4rpg, 2.0apg, 1.3bpg, 45.4% FG, 30.4% 3PT, 79.9% FT

Miles Rubin - 6'10" JR C from Loyola: 11.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 2.3apg, 2.3bpg, 58.5% FG, 54.3% FT (Felix rim protector type...has had at least 76 blocks all 3 years he's played)

That's a lot of PGs not named Tanner 😬

And it just so happens that that middy is a really inefficient shot so we’re not looking to take a ton of them and if we do need one late in the clock, I have no issues with preferring either Ament or Gillespie be the one to take it 🤷‍♂️.

He needed to either hit contested 3s or get to the rim
The middy needs to return. The best teams score in the mid range

3s and layups don’t work - see Alabama

Ebuka: 6'2" 185lbs FR PG, 23.2ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.6apg, 1.6spg, shot 46.5% FG, 35.4% 3PT, 83.2% FT
Tanner: 6'0" 170lbs SO PG, 19.5ppg, 3.6rpg, 5.1apg, 2.4spg, shot 48.5% FG, 36.8% 3PT, 85.3% FT

I think Tanner with his defense AND SEC experience would be the preferred option, but if Ebuka can be brought in for even a few 100k less than Tanner...yeah I'd be fine with that
I want to add a third option at PG:
Ebuka: 6'2" 185lbs FR PG, 23.2ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.6apg, 1.6spg, shot 46.5% FG, 35.4% 3PT, 83.2% FT
Tanner: 6'0" 170lbs SO PG, 19.5ppg, 3.6rpg, 5.1apg, 2.4spg, shot 48.5% FG, 36.8% 3PT, 85.3% FT
Leroy Blyden jr: 6'1" 175lbs FR PG, 16.4ppg, 4.0rpg, 4.5apg, 1.8spg, shot 46.1% FG, 40.7% 3PT, 84.6% FT

You do realize before this season he had played less than 160 minutes with Barnes' style of play...right?
If that’s what it takes to know if a player will fit in our style of play I’m even more worried about having to replace an entire roster

He's not wrong. As I said earlier in a post, you have backups on a 12-loss team wanting to triple their NIL deals. I like Amari Evans as much, if not more, than the next guy, but unless you think he has 10-12 ppg in the tank to go along with that defense as a starter on next year's roster playing 25 mpg, paying him $2 million seems foolish only to have to renegotiate that figure this time next year. And you know if you pay it and he only averages 6 and 4 playing 15 mins that he's still going to want a raise next year, too.
Agree. And i don’t think he will collect $2 mil. His family listened to his agent who to be honest, inflated the number as most agents do.

Same for Estrella- no way a team pays him $3 mil - esp w/his prior foot injuries. He played thru the pain but it’s still an issue.

I applaud Spyre (and Barnes) as they know what they have in both players.

Fans have only themselves to blame. The players clearly don't value the school, the program, the culture, the fans, etc. They've altered course and are simply chasing the bag because the odds of making it in the NBA are so very long. These have become their peak earning years and nothing else matters....and that includes championships.

Fans need to adjust as well. Players are nothing more than mercenaries. I value the program and my alma mater not the names on the jerseys. They are now replaceable pieces nothing more.
It is just the world they find themselves in. I think most players would much rather play for their favorite team, but how can you pass up hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to the "other" school? I wouldn't, and I don't think most folks on here would, if they were being honest.

I'm saying this, and I have been a lifelong Vol fan, and really don't have a second team. When the rubber meets the road, almost everyone will follow the money.
