2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

This can't continue every year. Basically, to have the same level of talent as this year's team, we have to spend 2 to 3 times as much. Not upgrade, same.

FWIW, they list seven teams, and we're not one of them. It does add "among others," though.
If we are involved we aren’t going to make it known at least if we can help it. We aren’t in this for a popularity contest as has been stated previously. I’m not sure if we are involved or not. My guy just text back a few minutes ago and said he hadn’t been told a thing. If he doesn’t know then few if any outside of those coaches you see on the website do. It’s known we are going to be big spenders and agents will absolutely use us to drive up a price. We aren’t trying not to be pawns in a game the agents have monopolized.

Side note with a personal opinion: we need a CBA in the worst way possible. This isn’t sustainable for your sport long term. It’s fun for a few years. Give it a few more and this will become a tired act. The future of your sport is built on bonds kids form to players. Impossible to form anything meaningful when they only get to watch them one year. As a father I hate it for my kids bc they won’t get the same thing I did if it isn’t fixed. Just my opinion.

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain the total pool for NIL is smaller this year (over all of NCAA) than it was last year.

If you aren’t a top tier prospect, you may be seeing a paycut compared to last years surge.

What is the workload for this staff having to replace almost the entire roster and down one assistant coach and player development role
Easier than you think. You ask everyone, "What's your number?" and then build the best roster you can with your budget.

Don't even have to leave the office.

Any inside hope Nate comes back
NO

I can’t see Nate staying, hes projected to go top 10. I won’t lie though if he did stay, I could see him improving enough to be the #1 pick in 2027.
If he is pick 9 or lower, and thinks he could be a top 4 pick the next year, getting $5/6m from UT could make the money worth staying. Big swing from top 5 to #10 in the salary scale.

Keeping things under wraps and not making information publicly available on our targets will certainly be good for our chances at landing top targets, but it’s going to make this thread pretty boring when there isn’t really much to talk about outside of baseless speculation and @TrippieRedd wishlist changing every few hours. 😂

Chris Low continuing to run interference on the mass exodus from Tennessee the past 36 hours lol.

I knew Tony casually during our time at Tennessee with us both growing up in Charlotte. The rumors of him potentially transferring after his sophomore season were true. Kansas offered him a bag. He ultimately stayed because he didn’t want to give up a year of eligibility and liked being closer to home. He told me point blank that the only thing he got at Tennessee was a pair of new shoes anytime he wanted it. Those were different times. I do feel like he and others from his era were massively taken advantage of unless the program was cheating beyond comprehension. That said, the barriers then made the athlete think about something other than money. Punchline, there’s a solution somewhere between taking advantage of athletes and the current reckless approach. Where we are now is not the right answer. But where we were then wasn’t either.

This thread is going to devolve during this dead period

During the first ten minutes of that game, we were bullying the eventual national champions on the boards.

Had we not been called for post fouls that hadn't been fouls all year, we wouldn't have been "absolutely smoked." Our guys, the ones leaving right now, were on the bench when they went on the run.
Not sure your definition of smoked, but we still weren’t coming close to winning that game. Not all the guys leaving were on the bench. But the ones leaving that did see minutes froze up like a peeder in a cold river. I do appreciate them and will follow them wherever they end up. I also get all the turnover if the dollars show up to get a team of mercenaries like Mich did this year .

No argument here. While I love guys like Boswell, he's not in Mashacks league athletically, and you just can't risk rolling into next year dependent on him producing offensively on a consistent basis. If he would accept a backup role like Burg, I'd love to see him stay. He wouldn't and I don't blame him. It is what it is.

Mashack's peak was his last year and maybe second half of his junior year. Boswell was in his sophomore year and first year starting. Comparing them isn't exactly apples to apples

Strong disagree. Few set a culture better than Barnes. I thought I would see a dropoff after losing ZZ/Mashack, but they were the same team this year. He’ll do it again.

Barnes had Felix, Estrella, Cade, and Boswell coming back from that 2024-2025 season. It isn't like he lost everyone with experience in the program after ZZ/Mashack graduated.

Comparing their athleticism and defensive impact should be. I hear what you’re saying.. but Mashack was a defensive freak. And Boswell just can’t be that. We also have to take into account CRB is going to bring him back IF he thought Boswells offensive game would continue to jump. I hate losing him too, but if it frees up money to a guy with a higher ceiling, I don’t care if he’s played for 7 schools before coming here.
