2026 Transfer Portal Thread

JP is one of those players whose potential is worth the price tag. A high risk, high reward stock. If you get the fully healthy version of him with an assumed mild continuous improvement, he's easily worth seven figures. He's just never been able to stay healthy, so it really depends of your risk level in terms of investment. I think he is someone you pay to be your #3 or 4 scorer with the potential that he's your #1 or 2 if everything goes right.
Any idea the monetary value? Seems a million doesn’t buy much nowadays. Insane!

I am very excited about Foxwell, but have watched little film on him so far, I just know he’s had some eye popping stats.

For those better informed, would he be the crown jewel of portal class? In the same tier as DK, Lanier, or Gillespie?

I just ask because I feel like while balanced scoring is very important, and something we need, I still feel like every team needs that high-profile, star player that can carry you in big moment. That JaKobi. Or LaBaron Philon. Or Tyler Tanner. Go down the list.

Just wondering who that could be for us next year.

I hope it’s Tyler Tanner 🙏🏼

I've never seen the guy play, so take this with a huge grain of salt. But his stats suggest a bit of a volume shooter at this point in his career. 3P% isn't really where I'd like to see it and he's below 50% from 2. However, he was just a freshman this year, so he could have tremendous long-term upside. Just seems like a risk to go all-in on him as your centerpiece.

He looks like a decent player but I definitely agree with all of this. Don’t think he can be a #1 or #2 option for us

I'd be completely speculating, but $1.5 million seems like it would be easily attainable by him from some school. Now, most kids will have to weigh the biggest paycheck against the best opportunity to win. The elite of the elite are gonna get both. JP might have to decide if $2.25 million at NC State is a better offer than $1.5 million at Tennessee***.

***All hypothetical manufactured examples and figures.

I wonder if the shoulder injury knocks his price down at all?

Someone in here the other day said they knew Tennessee had a $3.5 million offer out for Lundblade. You think that is true and Rice is a $7 million player? $3.5 million for Lundblade sounded like a lot to me but with the exponential growth in NIL demands, I didn't entirely discount it.
I don’t think $3.5m for Lundblade is even close to accurate

Would like Troy staying and developing into a backup PG who can shoot, cuts the need for that fourth portal option if his shoulder is healthy and the staff continues to develop him. Hope the rumors that he's transferring aren't true, but wouldn't be surprised, in which case a player like Houston makes even more sense.

It's not bad if the players we have continue to steadily develop.

Just astounding to me that he may be able to get that kind of money. I’m not a coach and in the minority, but I don’t see it. I Just don’t think he’s consistent enough but then I ask - who can we get to replace him and at what cost? So, maybe we should pay JP.

I would bet a good amount of money JP has 1 or more offers north of $2 MM. To your point, we may not match and, as we have done in the past with other players, rely on the rel'ships and strength of our program to pay him less. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

As I've stated in previous posts...he's the #1 offensive player in the SEC (4 and 5 positions) per Evan Miya and this was his first real season. Assuming he doesn't get injured...this will be his first offseason to train and prepare for next season...I would expect him to noticeably improve his strength, vertical and lateral quickness.

Edit: I think he's a walking double-double for a team that plays him ~30 mpg and actually posts him up more than 2 time a half.

THAT might be the change we need to see...but I don't know that it will, Barnes is pretty stubborn in his ways.

I do agree he fouls too much, but I don't agree he's doing it too often in the 1st half and that's why his minutes are down.

12 games out of 31 he committed 3 fouls or more
5 of those 12 games he committed 2 fouls in the 1st half, twice against Vandy (both we lost) once against Auburn, once against Virginia and then against Texas

In those 5 games he played 19.6 mpg. Just looking at numbers...11 games he played less than 15 minutes, only 1 of those games did he hit 3 fouls.

Cade played the first 10 games of the season, JP hurt his ankle in the 7th against Kansas. So the lower minutes were all more health related than foul trouble at Missouri he only played 6 minutes...but had zero fouls

I think his inconsistent rebounding is a better marker to sitting. He played at least 18 minutes in every game he grabbed 6 rebounds or more.

He never played 18 minutes in any game where he failed to grab at least 5 rebounds.
I think he was on a minutes restriction due to injury for a number of those low-minutes games.

His per 40 would suggest he’s 17/9 if given 30mpg, he’s played 27+mins 5x this season and guess what he averaged, 17/9. Everything suggests that if he can play 28-32mpg as you mention he’d be a double double guy, he’s 40% from 3, you open up that green light a bit and he damn well could be a 20/10 guy…yea, he would command a high dollar amount.
