Anyone?
When discussing his biggest strengths, Mayfield says he approaches his game looking to set the tone on the defensive end.
"I definitely prioritize my defense," Mayfield said. "I tend to hustle a lot. I get blocks and I stay around the rim a lot. My potential is among the highest. I never settle for where I am at now. I want to get better and be better every day."
Focusing on his recruitment, Mayfield says he has an official visit scheduled on June 24 with Tennessee.
In addition to the Volunteers, Mayfield says Florida State and Maryland have made him a priority.
He discussed his thoughts on each of the programs involved with 247Sports:
Florida State: "Chris Kent is a very cool guy. I like him a lot. We talk about the NBA Finals, family, and other things. We have a lot of things in common."
Maryland: "We just got in touch. Steve Roccaforte is a cool guy."
Tennessee: "They are very interactive. They call me a lot and check up on me throughout the days to make sure I am good. I feel like I am going to like it a lot up there. I feel comfortable with them."
Mayfield says he hasn't scheduled or discussed official visits with any other schools. When the time comes to decide on a school, he plans to prioritize each program's overall environment.
"I am looking at the environment to see how the players interact with the coaches and how the coaches interact with the players," Mayfield said. "I am also looking at the outside noise to make sure the environment is cool."
Makes me wonder how far he might shoot up the rankings once scouts get to see him play.In 2025, the 6-foot-8 junior powered his team to the Sweet 16 and the 3A-Area 7 title, finishing the year averaging 18 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game with a 66.5% clip (113-for-170) with 52 total blocks.
A couple of summers ago, Mayfield's rise was almost derailed by a torn patellar tendon and dislocated kneecap. Months after being unable to walk, Mayfield returned in time to shine on the varsity stage despite missing recruiters on the travel circuit.
