After a strong performance on Saturday, all eyes were on Tennessee Impact's Trey Thompson as he prepared for a high-profile matchup against Anthony Edwards' AE5 squad. It was a prime opportunity to evaluate how he would stack up against a team that featured a pair of nationally ranked recruits and translatable level athletes. From the opening tip, it was clear—Thompson was more than ready for the challenge.

The 6-foot-8 forward out of Greeneville (Tenn.) got things going by scoring his team's first ten points. His jumper was falling from behind the three point line and he was efficient driving the ball to find scoring opportunities inside the lane. What caught our attention the most was his passing acumen. He can survey the floor facing up or playing with his back to the basket. His cross court passes causes defenses to chase the ball and he generated a flow within his team's offense.

Although Tennessee Impact came up short, Thompson finished with 21 points, including five made threes, and added seven rebounds. It was a strong showing and a fitting way to cap off a stock-boosting weekend. As the live period approaches, Thompson will be one of the more talked-about names among prospects poised to see a rise in their recruitment.

Anyone got a 247 sub, would guess it’ll be hard to pull him away from Texas with his dads ties…

I have some connection to some information. If I hear anything pertinent I will let everyone know. He does have some family in Tennessee. But not sure how likely he would be to leave Texas.

Tennessee: "I used to live in Knoxville, so it's always a school I think about. I talk to Bryan Lentz, and it's been good building that relationship. They saw me play at a high school tournament in Tennessee."

I was thinking of his Dad, who played HS long before Siegel was built.
Yeah his dad grew up in Georgia. I used to play with him and Chris Rainey a lot in the late 80’s through the 90’s.now we too old with bad knees and Chris is …on vacation. Kerry was a bull and Chris was a sniper. I remember their team that beat Tennessee in the NIT one year in there. After that there was a lot of talk in Murfreesboro about Bruce Stewart leaving for the Tennessee job when Wade Houston was ultimately hired. I think Coach Stewart would have done well in Knoxville. He was a great recruiter.

He speaks highly of Texas, Purdue and Tennessee and says he'll likely commit in July or August.

Tennessee: "We are trying to set up an official visit there in the next couple of weeks. Bryan Lentz is a great guy. I have been to their campus three or four times. It's 90 minutes from my house. All of my friends are there, the campus is nice, and Rick Barnes is a great coach. I love it there. They have a lot to offer, and I cannot wait for my official visit."

Purdue: "I liked meeting the players. The players love it and want to stay there. Matt Painter, Paul Lusk, and the coaching staff believe in me and they want me there. I am truly valued there, and that speaks volumes to me. The staff visited my home a few weeks ago, and it was awesome. They have great people there."

Texas: "Sean Miller has been super busy lately, so I have been talking to Adam Cohen. They love it there. They say it's completely different from Xavier. They are trying to get me on a visit. They love how I can stretch the floor and punish people in the paint."

LOOKING AHEAD

Thompson says he plans to commit in July or August and is looking for a program that shows they truly want him.

"I want to play for a school that wants me as bad as I want them," Thompson said. "I want to play at a great school with the opportunity to get on the floor in my first or second year."
