Up to 5 teams could maybe tie for third. We’d lose the head-to-head tie breakers with Kentucky, Missouri, and Arkansas but have it over Texas A&M. Bama would finish with a better record and get the #2 seed. It gets complicated with 3, 4, or 5 way ties but losing to KY twice, Arkansas, and Missouri would hurt our chances. The best thing to do is to just beat Vandy and secure the double bye.

I forgot that we just lost to Bama so we don’t have tge head-to-head.

Bama loses to Barn. We beat Vandy. Then we’re tied with Bama in W/Ls. But they probably have all possible tie breaker scenarios with their wins over Arkansas, Missouri, and Kentucky. And Texas A&M as well, so maybe #3 is our best possible SECT seed.

I mean it took out 2nd place. Highest we can get is 3rd if Arky loses their last two and we beat Vandy.

I think if we lose Saturday, then Vandy knocks us out of the double bye. We’d be 1-1 head-to-head with them, but they’re 1-0 versus Bama while we’re 1-1.

The tie breaker might have an unintended consequence. Losing to a bottom feeder might not be as bad as losing to a top team. TN’s losses are all versus the better teams.

Key SEC Tournament Tiebreaker Rules:

Two-Team Tie:
Head-to-head result.
Record against the highest-seeded team and moving down.
If still tied, a coin flip by the Commissioner.

Three-Team Tie (or more):
Winning percentage of games played among the tied teams.
If still tied, the best record against the highest-seeded team, proceeding down the standings.
If three or more teams remain tied after that, a draw by the Commissioner.

I know I am one of the few who think the conference tournaments matter and this is another case where I think it does.

With as many teams bunched up, there has to be a means to separate them and I believe the league tournament will be part of what does that

It matters a lot to Auburn and Oklahoma. They’ll probably be out of the NCAAT if they go 0-1 in the SECT.

The SECT matters, until the final games are played. I'm pretty positive seeding is done Saturday night, and they just wait for automatic bids on those Sunday games.

Now if the SECT Championship game was Saturday night then I'd say it matters.

But right now I think the only way the championship game really matters is if a team on the outside (Auburn) wins the thing.

Wade Houston almost stole an NCAAT spot in 1991 with a 13-21 record. Bama said “nope” in the SECT championship game.

I feel bad that Allan Houston never got to play in the NCAAT. Our GOAT on the perimeter.

Well, they’re 16-14. A win at Texas on Saturday is 17-14. Then 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 in the SECT is 19-15, 20-15, or 21-15. Plus if the committee still values later wins over earlier wins they’d have a couple of decent ones. They lost 9 in a row to START the SEC season 1-9. I don’t think that Oklahoma has to win the SECT for an NCAAT bid.

I don't think there was legitimate thinking we'd get 2nd over Arkansas to be honest. To me the 2nd or 3rd spot is the same because its on other side of bracket from Florida, which is what we should really want. While the tourney means little, I was hoping for us to be full health before Ament injuries so we could get on a good run to continue peaking at the right time.

2nd or 3rd finish was really irrelevant for league tourney. Now a 2nd place finish with a 14-2 close to regular season could have shot us up a seed in the big tourney

I played around on the predictor tool last night. Scenarios ranged from T-2nd (3rd seed in SECT) to playing games on Wednesday.
