I think RB wants his players to play their role on the team to perfection.

Always thought Shack was ass on offense, but obviously that’s wrong if he’s doing this against dudes in Summer League.

Ah, man, Jahmai where the heck was this aggression on offense when you played here? 🤣

Mashack's mom regularly hinted on twitter that his offensive role here was minimized by the system and restrictions on shots that could be taken

It wasn’t just his mom, CRB basically said this multiple times.

It’s just the way our offense works. We run a best shot offense. It’s always been this way.

We will spend the full shot clock trying to get Chaz an open look etc…

Jamai was allowed to shoot open corner 3’s above 10s on the clock. That’s it basically.

I think Mashack was at his best when he attacked the rim, when he does that and then hits a 3, he can become a potential problem. Plus, JM continues to make great passes that are leading to assists and even, what I call a hockey assist (the pass before the assist). He's getting a G-League contract, I'm hoping it leads to those 10-day contracts.

True, and more than just pointing it out, Mama Mashack seemed frustrated by the approach.

Hes been wide open at Memphis on the wings with the pick and roll requiring help D or from double team kick outs basically undefended. Twasn’t nobody double teaming us last year for an open kick. He wasn’t open on the wings at UT as much in 4 years as he has been in 3 games with Memphis it seems.

I think it will need to be around 40%. JMO

Only 38 players shot 40% from 3 last year in the NBA. With Mashack's ability to guard 3 positions and his defensive athleticism, I don't think that would be necessary. Lanier will need to shoot close to 40% to stick in a rotation.

If he can defend without the fouls (which I think he somewhat has, and will continue to do so), and shoot 35% from 3, 1,000%

Another poor performance from DK tonight. I don’t think he’s going to make the roster at this point. It’s weird because after watching him play in Summer League and the regular season last year it’s clear that he can compete and has the talent to play in the NBA. He just looks lost right now.

He's struggling but really doubt he gets cut when guaranteed over 4 million next year.

Looking at yesterday's games...

Chaz Lanier - 5 points in 26 minutes on 2-10 shooting. His first single-digit performance in 4 appearances.

Zakai Ziegler - 15 points in 11 minutes. 7-7 from the FT line.

Josiah Jordan James - 3 points in 16 minutes on 1-5 shooting.

Jahmai Mashack - 8 points in 25 minutes on 4-8 shooting. Grabbed 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Kennedy Chandler - 14 points in 34 minutes on 5-18 shooting. 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Dalton Knecht - In 31 minutes, scored 8 points on 3-12 shooting.

Tyreke Key - Saw 6 minutes but went 0-2 from the field and picked up three fouls.

Did anyone think that on July 18th the two guys we'd be talking about are Mashack and Ziegler? lol
Wouldn’t have shocked me, 2 guys that always bring it…summer league doesn’t translate at all to NBA 99.9% of the time, Jarnell Stokes was a dominant force in summer league.

I agree in a general sense but I’ve watched all the grizzlies summer league games Jahmai has played and IMO what he’s doing is very transferable. Think he’ll be a two way this year but can definitely see him sticking around as a real rotation place in the league. His shot has always looked nice to me, and he’s even handling the ball better than I’d have thought

I felt like Mashack should have been more assertive on the offensive end last year. Must have been by design. Don’t know.
