Mashack out for the game today with hamstring soreness. Bummer. Looking forward to Chaz and Ziggy at 6 and Gainey at 9!

Thanks. I hadn't seen that yet. Unfortunate. But I'm definitely looking forward to watching the others.

I saw about half of Chaz's minutes, and he looked like he belonged.

His defense was good. He reacted quickly on defense and was very engaged. Demonstrated high BBIQ multiple times. Boxed out. Looked very fundamentally sound.

Only thing was I saw bad was his shot get blocked once where he seemed relatively open. And that was something worth worrying about in the NBA with longer defenders and his low release point.

Itโ€™s so funny how traditional bigs that donโ€™t fit in the NBA dominate summer league and G league.

Tolu Smith was incredible in this game, for instance.

Bacot was good in the Memphis game.

And itโ€™s always been like this. All the way back to Stokes winning g-league mvp

I really don't understand why the traditional big really doesn't get a chance much anymore in the NBA

Players like Kofi Cockburn coming out of college were insanely athletic and gifted. Now it seems like bigs space the floor and shoot 3's? If I were an nba owner, I'd want a big man on my roster. A lot of these centers today aren't as strong anymore

theres no shaq in the league, and without someone of that level, the traditional bigs necessary to compete with him aren't worth the dip in handling spacing defensively

Jokic and embiid are both pretty dominant though. Youโ€™re in for a long night if you donโ€™t have someone on your roster to match up with them.

both are stretch 5s and far from classic centers and neither as dominant down low as Shaq was

A great illustration of this is that Jokic, playing on the team last year that shot the fewest 3s, hit more than Larry Bird did in any of his seasons.
its funny how so many people think of larry bird as a sniper when he was shooting less threes than many of his contemporaries

many seasons with fewer than 1 attempt per game

League leader in 85-86 and 86-87. Danny Ainge was in 87-88, with a big bump in the number he hit over Bird's (140 vs 90).

I didnโ€™t realize Gainey was trying to sign with the Suns. When did this happen?

How do these summer leagues work? I assume it will be kind of like a โ€œtryoutโ€ for a lot of our players? What are the chances of making the final roster when the season starts?

Lanier starting off hot in his second game. Got Zeigler vs Chandler rn too.
ZZ with 7 pts in 14 mins on 3-7 shooting with 5 mins left in the 4th quarterโ€ฆ mainly driving past some bigs on mismatches.

Had some nice passes that shouldโ€™ve been assists. Heโ€™s also been defending KC primarily.
