TSWA/USA Today high school football state poll after Week 4

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association and USA Today Network announced football rankings after Week 3 on Monday. Top 10 teams in each of the six Division I classifications and Top 5 in three Division II classes were selected by TSWA members and USA Today writers with first-place votes in parentheses and total points based on 10 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 10th-place vote.

Commit.

Maybe as high a national ranked win for any TN HS team in recent years ?

I'm not sure that says anything good about Mission Vejio.

I'm using the transitive property here but McCallie lost to Ensworth, a team the got beat by Nashville Christian Academy that is in the lowest private division in the state. I don't care if they do have who is considered the top player in the state for 2026.

Fair point but there were Some highly unusual calls in the McCallie -Ensworth game IMO as I watched all of it. Also some incredible one sided clock Management by the ref cre as well. The ref last night at M game were reported to be the crew that has been selected to do the state championship game this year. FWIW

. M plays the reigning state champion from
Mississippi this coming Friday. And of course Baylor game out there too. M isnā€™t exactly dodging talented teams in their schedule. The top private school division is loses with great teams on TN IMO. Iā€™m not saying M is best team in state at this point but I am saying they beat one of the top ten (6th) ranked teams in the country

I started to look at schedules to try to get a feel for how good some of these teams may be. Frankly speaking, a lot of these teams are flat out awful. There are too many schools and not enough talent across the board so it's still difficult to assess some of the cream of the crop outside of some of the big names dominating in their classification.

I could only get through class 1A and 2A before I've run out of time because I have a Saturday's errand list.

There is not a whole lot that stands out about 1A. I think you could say McKenzie does lead that group with their only loss coming to 2A #5 ranked Huntingdon.

In 2A, I expect Milan to replace Marion County after Marion County surprised defeat to Chattanooga Prep. Milan beat Chattanooga Prep handily the week before. There are some clashes left for both in their districts that will help with peaking orders. Marion County still has Bledsoe and Grundy County. Milan still has Trenton Peabody, but has already beaten Huntingdon.

The most interesting division still has to be 6A where there is a deep pool of good teams at the top.

I will have to dive more into some of those schedules leading up to the playoffs as these teams also start to figure out more who they are.

I won't be able to breakdown rosters because I'm not a reporter or talent guy who follows that closely. I only follow the scores so we can have a main thread.

TSWA/USA Today high school football state poll after Week 6

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association and USA Today Network announced football rankings after Week 6 on Monday. Top 10 teams in each of the six Division I classifications and Top 5 in three Division II classes were selected by TSWA members and USA Today writers with first-place votes in parentheses and total points based on 10 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 10th-place vote.

I question some of this reporting. Antioch is undefeated at 6-0. I'm not sure they are really a top 10 team though as it could be more of a product of a weak schedule.


Milan and Peabody will clash in the last week of the year. That might determine who the #1 team in 2A is going into the playoffs unless there is an upset.

welp when i was in skool and there were only 3 classes in the whole state it was easier to figger out as i walked to skool in the rain and snow. 24 teams made the playoffs. not per division... for the whole state

A little bit more when I came through late 80s. Still 3 classes so the talent and competition was condensed. Only 3 classes, 2 teams per district in the playoffs, private/public consolidated. Harder to win a title. Now there are 9 titles vs 3. If I remember, the first real change was around 1991 or 1992 when they added classes.
