Well I don’t think Phillips or Estrella likely provide much more spacing, there’s not really a true stretch 4 on the roster imo, so kinda stuck playing bigger ball, but Houston did fine with that strategy, same for Florida, just gotta be elite rebounding.
Florida’s bigs were both more capable of knocking down threes than any of our bigs.. Not a very good comparison at all..

Also, our bigs aren’t on the same level of Houston’s.. Roberts manhandled anybody we threw at him.

Agree on Florida’s 4 men, they weren’t huge threats from 3 but moreso than anyone on our roster has shown, but the style was much more 3 guards do the bulk from perimeter and bigs rebound. As for Houston, their bigs weren’t dominate offensive forces by any stretch, they were good defensively and really good rebounders, I don’t think it’s fair to say ours aren’t even close when you’ve yet to see what they can do this season.

I suppose if Estrella is what we think he can be and Carey makes an improvement from Vandy then sum of the parts could be just as good. But man Roberts totally manhandled anybody we threw at him. Maybe Carey will be the difference this year.

Yes, Carey abused us similarly both times we played Vanderbilt, would’ve loved to have had him against Houston. Estrella was also our best big against Edey as a freshman, he was physically ready for him, would hope that’s only improved.

Carey had 14 & 10 and 18 & 7 against us last year in 2 games…Tugler & Roberts COMBINED for 15 & 11 against us in that game.

I think people will be surprised by how well our bigs can stretch it this year as well. From practice reports, looks like all of them are getting shots up from the perimeter at a good clip. Not saying they'll be true stretch 4s, just saying there will be a lot of different looks and not just 3-2 ball.

80 PPG, punch off the bench, dominant bigs, a great 10 man rotation and depth behind. All the makings of a championship team imo!

Taking shots and making shots aren’t always the same though. I’ve seen reports that they’re practicing. I haven’t seen any reports of any of them being snipers out there although maybe I missed it.

Seen from Ryan Schumpert's practice observations that Cade and JP are shooting really well from the perimeter in drills, that Carey is improving in his perimeter shooting, and that Okpara was drilling 3s in drills and 5-on-5 when they let media in last practice. Again, it's just practice and obviously it's easy to get carried away with summer hype, but I think there's enough there to surprise folks. Not saying any of them are going to be living on the 3PT line by any means, just seeing a lot that offensive games have expanded beyond last year's dunkfest.
