2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I'm fine with them being "unfair" on this, I don't want to see 27 year olds playing college basketball. I'd also be fine with all of the old Euro players being banned from enrolling. I don't have any interest in watching the G League in college uniforms.
isn’t this already common in some sports, especially at the d2 level? I heard that the *median* age in a recent d2 national championship game (not basketball, it was a different sport) was like 28.

That would mean the ncaa is allowing it frequently.

If we do get Berg, what is your way too early estimate on depth chart/minutes?
You didn't ask me at all, but I've had too much fun this summer making these. I'd say:

Gillespie - 30
Burg - 25
Ament - 30
Carey - 20
Okpara - 25
---
Henderson - 5-10
Boswell - 10
Abram - 15-20
Phillips - 20
Estrella - 15
---
Evans - 0-5
Massamba - 0-5
Brown - 0-5

Gillespie 32/Berg 8
Berg 15/Abram 25 (could see either starting)
Ament 30/Boswell 10
Carey 20/Phillips 20
Okpara 25/Estrella 15

Bench: Evans, Massamba, Henderson & Brown
That’s about what I was thinking with maybe some minutes for Henderson and Brown depending on how things progress. I think the best thing about adding Berg would be that no matter who starts between Berg or Abram, we would finally have a starting 2 and a backup 2 to replace Gaineys production.

Do you forsee the Carey/Okpara pairing getting scrapped at some point due to spacing? I can just see it heading that way by conference if the paint is packed and struggling to score.

Well I don’t think Phillips or Estrella likely provide much more spacing, there’s not really a true stretch 4 on the roster imo, so kinda stuck playing bigger ball, but Houston did fine with that strategy, same for Florida, just gotta be elite rebounding.

And they’ve said Phillips has looked solid and been a leader while Carey has missed a bit with injury. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carey eventually start, but I think Cade, with his system familiarity and his continued improvements, gets the nod to begin the season.
Just to throw another log on the fire, if Estrella is healthy, I think he has a chance to start. He was really coming on late in the 23-34 season. I think his skill set may be the best of any of the posts, if he's healthy.

I love our big guys and the options we have. Okpara with elite defense and pick and roll. Phillips with a motor on both ends. JP with the high offensive upside. And Carey the enforcer and true “back to basket” post. Lots of options for lineups!

It reminds me of a Sonic burger. Not terrible, but not great.

If I’m getting a burger in Nashville, Red Headed Strager’s green chili burger is my favorite. Hugh Baby’s, Dreamburger, Cledis, Riverside Grill Shack, Gabby’s….all fantastic. No reason to go to Whataburger.
Green chile burger! That sends my mind racing back to my time in New Mexico. 🤤
