He got almost 26 minutes a game.He averaged 9 points 7 rebounds and 2 assists on 58% true shooting. I think that would be a pretty good return from Carey next season and would still result in a bunch of people like you on this board calling him a bum, but that’s the way it goes
Personally, I thought Felix did pretty damn good at the 5 last year. Loved the way he runs the floor, and I noticed him improve pretty much the whole year. Hopefully that continues this upcoming year.Okpara doesn’t get pushed around in my opinion. He plays a little bigger than he is, and is definitely more aggressive than Aidoo was at the same size.
If Estrella is healthy we are going to play some bully ball next year, especially with the addition of Carey. Phillips should be 225-230 by then too.
Felix / Cade and JP / Carey..... Hopefully we'll be able to just keep rotating them in if we run into a team with bigs.Jp Estrella & Jaylen Carey are big boys. And we have not had a guy at 6'9" start at SF. Just saying, we won't have the same issues as we seen in the Houston game
Agree. And offensively with all 4 of those guys healthy all year i could see it averaged out around 30 - 34 ppg among the 4 bigs sharing the scoring load. I just see it being realistic that they will share a lot of time and none of our bigs averaging a ton of points. But together all 4 of them could wear opponents down as they all have different superhero abilities that brings the team life in their own way. I see between 7-10 points each. This would be ideal for us and fun to see this productive depth at 4-5Okpara doesn’t get pushed around in my opinion. I know we’re planning on adding the “number 3” scoring option at shooting guard, but Carey could actually end up being that number 3 scorer if he continues to develop. It might not be a bad thing, and it would give us more balance inside/out.Agree. Carey - 10p ish (11-9)
Okpara - 9p ish (10-8)
Estrella - 8p ish (9-7)
Phillips - 7p ish (8-6)
Exactly. The second half of the Ole Miss game where Brakebill did that and turned that game around.Felix / Cade and JP / Carey..... Hopefully we'll be able to just keep rotating them in if we run into a team with bigs.
JP looked really damn promising IMO in that Purdue game. I know that was a long time ago now, but I have faith he will pick back up where he left off.
Incidentally, I think Barnes picked up Carey for one main reason ( I mean there are others of course), if you remember there were a few games last year where someone like Carey would come in and bully us/back us down into the paint and work us. Barnes alluded to this right about picking up Carey I just can't remember the exact interview. It was the one where he was talking about shoring up some weaknesses/being in a better position to play with all styles of basketball this year.
I loved Igor, not hating, and think he brought a lot…he had a really bad close to the year but was great in spurts, felt like there was always another gear and potential to go off. With that said inconsistency is the toughest thing for coaches to handle, they want to know what they’re going to get and you never did with Igor. Not sure what Carey will bring but being just a sophomore and posting comparable numbers in the same league is a nice start, the coaches said he was the best screener they saw all year so guessing they like how that’ll translate also, if nothing else it feels like a guy that will defend and rebound every single night.
If Felix and Cade can develop some offense from 8 feet in, that would do wonders for this team. I’m talking about being able to score without dunking. Use the backboard. Develop some touch. I’m sure that’s being worked on.Personally, I thought Felix did pretty damn good at the 5 last year. Loved the way he runs the floor, and I noticed him improve pretty much the whole year. On offense he just need to work on not putting the ball on the ground/down low when he catches it so close to the bucket. I'm sure Barnes is going to work on him keeping the ball high and going up high with his shot ( ala Kevin Durant). Felix doesn't necessarily have to get an alley oop for him to high point the ball. Gillespie should be able to get him the ball where no one else can get it, and if he works on taking it right on up high and strong, he could develop him a nice little shot not too far from the basket.
As far as defense, the guy is a beast, IMO.
If he isn't actually blocking a shot, he is consistently causing players on the other team to have to alter their shots coming in.
Definitely glad he stayed around for next year!
It would be nice if Cade could add at least a fifteen foot jumper to his game. If he adds the fifteen foot jumper the next step would be a pump fake and one or two dribble drive. If Felix and Cade can develop some offense from 8 feet in, that would do wonders for this team. I think our top 2 scorers are set in our pg & sf. But I think after that it will be balanced overall including starting at sg, i think we will get 9-10ppg on the season there similar to CareyI know we’re planning on adding the “number 3” scoring option at shooting guard, but Carey could actually end up being that number 3 scorer if he continues to develop.
