I agree they don’t have to be elite, especially if you have an elite wing like potentially Ament, but I struggle to think we can stand pat with our guard situation…

Evans/Boswell
Ament
Carey/Estrella
Okpara/Phillips/Brown

Right. We don’t need elite scoring at the 2. But what we do need is *spacing*

They have to be enough of a threat that having them on the floor doesn’t allow the defense to get all gimmicky.

And also, they need to be enough of a threat that if the defense chooses to double team ament or Gillespie or whatever, the 2 becomes a problem.

Not saying I wouldn’t take him, just not sure of the fit, can’t shoot the 3 so he’s not stretching the floor for Ament at all. EFG% is pretty low and he’s a ball dominant guard which takes it out of the hands of Gillespie, which again I don’t think is what is best either.

Add in that he’s probably a $3-$4m price tag and I would much rather go get two 2 guards from the above list.

They’re just making argument bc they want to feel like the smartest in the room. We’ve all been talking all day/week/month about how we need to land 2 solid shooters at the guard position to open up the floor for Ament to reach his ceiling. Everyone (or all but 1-2) knows what’s being referenced when we say we need “shooters.”

Looks like he did improve his three-point shooting significantly from last season, even if it’s still not as good as we would like. The biggest concern for me would be the turnovers. However, he can definitely score the ball. I hope we contact him.

I’m sure Barnes will figure it out, but we simply have to find some additional scoring punch from the guards. I do not want to waste our one year with Ament by relying on Henderson, Boswell, or Evans to be a primary scoring option. Talk about a disaster.
