I didn’t say that, but he will probably play pro somewhere. He’s also just a sophomore. The suggestion was that he will have a network in LA. He probably won’t even stay out west. He’s a 6’4” off guard shooting under 40% from deep who, again, wasn’t even all conference last season. Not first team, not second team, not third, not honorable mention. If he’s playing professionally somewhere it’s not going to be for $3 million a season.
If he can make about 5 million bucks over the next couple of years in LA and he’s smart with his money he will never have to make a LinkedIn account in his life, and that’s worth more than anything.I didn’t say that, but he will probably play pro somewhere. Julian just never seemed to figure it out when he was here. At least he seems to have found a home with the Bulls.Yeah best case you get a Kennedy Chandler situation who hit a freshman wall then needed a pep talk from TJ ford and he went up a gear.
I'm guessing he'll be shot out of a cannon with his talent first few games and maybe hit a wall at some point and then either go Jullian Phillips or Kennedy Chandler route when things get tough
It's actually pretty good. It tells us he has good shot selection and knows when to take good shots. If you put good players around him and he plays his role, combined with his high IQ and good defense, I think he could be a good player for you guys. It’s not as impressive as it sounds. He only made 40 all year.
That is assuming his housing will be on campus, which is a bit of an assumption. Just as a general response, how much do you think a 22 year old millionaire will spend in the LA nightlife as opposed to Knoxville? What is he realistically paying for that would be seen in cost of living, though? Housing and utilities will be covered by USC. Outside of that, he might pay another buck or two for a burger, and a little more for gas, but the primary drivers of cost of living won't even affect him.
Probably a component of resources like staffing and connections which leagues to start looking at etc. I'm guessing Illinois and Arizona have been able to get a few of these guys now have easier pipeline. But agree they'd likely save on moneyI’m a little surprised more schools aren’t going international routes, I think NIL is limited on those guys as to how much they can get, Illinois and St. John’s are 2 teams stocking up on those guys. Even just 2-3 quality international guys that are rotation pieces probably saves you $4-$5m to use elsewhere.
Barnes especially. We have been a very diverse team the last few years with kids from European countries.I’m a little surprised more schools aren’t going international routes, I think NIL is limited on those guys as to how much they can get, Illinois and St. John’s are 2 teams stocking up on those guys. Of course people on this board would leave a $50-$100K/year job to make an extra million per year. That's not very comparable to the situation. Also, I don't blame the kid for taking the extra money. He is the one who has to make decisions regarding both his current and future financial health. To be honest, though, I've seen large numbers of kids in that age range leave a job they like with good benefits for a $0.50/hour increase at another job.99% of this board would leave friends and family for a year to earn an extra $1 million in salary. It's Occam's razor. Literally nobody should blame the guy for securing his financial future.
We have a bead on any?I’m a little surprised more schools aren’t going international routes, I think NIL is limited on those guys as to how much they can get, Illinois and St. John’s are 2 teams stocking up on those guys. What job on earth are you talking about that has good benefits but measures raises in 50 cent incrementsOf course people on this board would leave a $50-$100K/year job to make an extra million per year. Well, good benefits for a young person, anyway. Things like paid health insurance, retirement plans with matching 401K, that kind of stuff. Also, I never said 50 cent raises. I said leave a job for another one making 50 cents an hour more. Often times, the slightly higher paying job has little to no benefits. What job on earth are you talking about that has good benefits but measures raises in 50 cent increments
I really like Nobu. Yes cost of living is the other fantastical specter often sold here. His meals are coming from the school, as is his housing. His cost of living it probably split between a pineapple vape and some fuzzy car seat covers.
I guess I get that in terms of scholarship limits. Not sure I get it in terms of appeasing Okpara. He’s good, but I don't know that he's worth two scholarships. But then it becomes a chicken/egg scenario.year 1…as for what are we doing, if it helps you retain Felix here and save you money in doing so and takes up just 1 spot with a LM/MM type talent I don’t see much issue. So many schools aren’t filling 13 spots, and if you land 2 more from the portal that cost $$$ how much do you have left to add a 13th?
Also, many think the limit goes to 15 in coming months.
