2025 Transfer Portal Thread

This is what I hate about college sports now. ZZ wearing any jersey other than Tennessee orange would be hard to swallow. It just would be. He’s the type of guy that should only belong to one school’s history books. I know people like Trippie want ZZ to move on, but it would kind of change my opinion of ZZ’s legacy a bit if he finished his career wearing another jersey. It just would. Fair or foul, it’s how I feel.

Also, don’t care if i’m being “negative” We haven’t had much other traction with other quality players. Can’t invest the time and resources into Rice and Freeman and let them go because of a 400k offer more than ours. Basilio was saying Barnes is all in for a final 4 run based on what he heard. Well it’s time to get real serious about that
Being negative after two Elite Eights. That’s why this board is frustrating sometimes. Let the staff put together a roster because they’ve proven they can do it.

Truly believe this is the only board on Al Gore’s internet that could land the #4 recruit in the country and miss on a D2 transfer for the same position and react like it’s the end of the world. Incredible work all around
It’s not. This drama happens all over the country. It’s there but you are just not reading every board constantly.

Sorry man, but the common link with a lot of your posts is naïveté. Do you think they have an unlimited budget? What if that extra $400k puts the number squarely in “that would be crazy to pay him so much” territory? What if overpaying for him negatively impacts efforts with other players?

The implication that they’re not serious is legitimately crazy. Some of you let your anxiety control your emotions to an unhealthy degree.

You don’t know that, the same way I don’t know that it is, but it’s foolish to say there’s zero chance of it happening or not happening, either way.
The amount of people (who have no clue) that feel the need to speak in absolutes with total authority on a message board is incredible.

For me, I don’t want to create potential drama later on and left with no options.

You bring ZZ back, what happens with JG? He wants to play PG. He didn’t come here last year because of that. You bring ZZ back, you risk losing him then you’re in a situation where you have ZZ, Gainey, Ament, Carey, Okpara.

Who’s the backups? By that time most of the decent portal players are taken.

I’d also wager they haven’t had any convos with JG regarding that since we’ve heard they’ve been recruiting as if the rule wasn’t getting approved.
Don't you trust the coach with 40 years of experience to handle that situation correctly, though? Do you really think that Barnes would bring ZZ back without getting Gillespie's take on it? Additionally, he's managed a situation where he's successfully used and seen 2 PGs thrive recently. If it becomes an option, I have full trust that Barnes will do what is best in that situation.

I’m walking a line here as I don’t want to be dismissive, but it has to be approved by the NCAA and the conferences and there are a long list of rulings below the eligibility requirement. Some people believe it will immediately be appealed if NJ rules this way. Others believe it will kick off a series of events prior to Summer SEC meetings, forcing a vote that mirrors the judges ruling. I don’t know anyone who knows what will happen with any degree of confidence.
I do. Just look in this thread. Lots of confidence. Unearned, unwarranted confidence...but confidence all the same.

I'd agree if he chose to go somewhere else on his own with the option of returning to Tennessee on the table. However, if that isn't an option for him because of Gillespie, I can't fault him for it.

I bet if those folks were willing to bet, and pay up, with a $100 wager on each absolute statement they might just tone down a bit. Probably a lot, actually. When there is no skin in the game but only ego, you tend to see some pretty arrogant prognosticators.

Yeah, I know he may not have a choice. So, that’s why I said I know it may be a foul take or an unpopular opinion. But if he chooses to come back for one year rather than go pro and he isn’t playing at Tennessee, I would just struggle to get over it. He wouldn’t have finished his career here. He would belong to another fanbase and it would just feel gross. He’s one of the last few “VFLs”. I couldn’t stomach it if he finished his career elsewhere.
