In Philippines Pesos maybe. But seriously, I question whether the Zags offered him 3 mil as well. If message boards are the arbiters of truth, then he's had a standing $3mil offer from 'Nova for a while now, so if he's in it all for the bag then I would guess 'Nova's 3 million would go further than Gonzaga's 3 million, factoring in the former coach element. So even if these numbers were accurate I don't see Gonzaga as a real player here. And USC, well stranger things have happened I guess, but Rice has stated emphatically that he wants to win, that's his priority. Taking even a really good offer (of 3 million or less) from a sub .500 Trojans team doesn't sound real likely to me. And Arizona, well hell, I guess he just stopped in there cuz' it was on the way back to Knoxville.

Incidentally FWIW, Adam Zegoria (a national sports figure who contributes to the New York Times and other major outlets) stated on Terps Recruiting on X last night that his sources are saying Rice was not in Arizona on a team visit but was visiting a family member in the area. Again FWIW.

I believe most of us know we still have good prospects coming in, but pretending we've just landed someone or that someone is leaving when it is not true is not only uncool but also childish.

If we don’t get Rice would turn to this guy maybe. Focus on Freeman and Ament first. Players want to play with great players. Freeman sounds like it is close and Ament seems close as well.

A few weeks back, I said we’d take a big intended to start and said there could be two openings depending on how things shake out. We took Carey soon after. At the time, I said I was asked not to share about either situation. I had a similar situation when Dubar took a break. I knew why, but have been asked to not talk about personal player issues, health etc. Same thing now. They’re easy enough to guess, but I’m sorry I can’t confirm. All I can say is that both are fluid, and both great kids.

Don’t think it matters. Auburn roster looks a lot weaker than our roster.

As with everything Tony says, take it with a grain of salt. Some is usually stuff he conjures up, some is from bits and pieces he see from forum "insiders", and then some might actually be from legit sources... who knows?

I really do believe though that Ament has been someone he has really really wanted. We seemed to be in a really great place with him in the fall and then it started to slowly fade and it seemed we lost momentum. I believe it was because Rick believed we wouldn't have the money for him, then...

Once the season ended we saw reports that big donors ponied up huge amounts of cash. I believe Ament and his family has liked Coach Barnes and UT a lot, but probably had questions about the roster, and we probably were offering the least amount. Once the money came in, and the roster started shaping up nicely, the momentum shifted and we came the best destination for him. Again this is all a gut feeling and from putting bits and pieces together. I could most def be wrong...
