2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I got nothing this morning. Rice’s visit and Ament’s decision are framing everything else. We aren’t going to sign another wing until Rice is in. Ament family was alienated by Arky and Louisville talking only to agents and not answering their or their son’s questions. Our family inclusive process is a plus. Duke losing early gave them some space to get more involved. Obviously recruiting against them is hard for a variety of reasons. It’s impossible to match the exposure they get. Hard to know whether we can come out on top. We’re still in a good spot with other players we like, but won’t dial things up until after the weekend. Our coaches seem to feel like Carey can be a massive talent, and that the only thing holding him back is conditioning, and improving basic shooting mechanics/free throws. More to come as things shape up.

I also feel like Carey can be a massive talent.

I mean, his brother was an All American

With Ament, I understand the exposure that Duke offers, but I also think that he is competing with a lot of others for that exposure on the same team, primarily the Boozer Bros. for his class. Like Flagg this year, they will be the story next year, unless Ament just grossly outperforms them, which is possible. If not, though, everyone else in that class will feel secondary the way Knueppel and Maluach were.

On the flip side, Tennessee...as much as we hate to admit it...isn't going to touch Duke in terms of exposure, prestige, or money.

An interesting dynamic, and Ament probably realizes that neither answer is wrong. He just has to decide for himself which one is most right.

@Stoerner Fumbles I wondered if you may have heard anything at all whether Carey may have left Vanderbilt on not great terms or after some kind of falling out or such? You've probably seen his comments after committing to us that came across as kind of abrasive toward Vandy, saying, "I don't care about no black and gold.." etc. Maybe he was just reacting to Vandy fans probably throwing the traitor label at him but fair to say you don't often see a player throwing shade like that at his former team on the way out the door. Not a huge deal necessarily, just hoping he'll integrate well in Knoxville and not a guy who's easy to have a falling out or so. Just curious.

You think you know, but you don't. Think what you want, it was a business decision.
Against my better judgement, I'll attempt to engage. First though, maybe instead of being a combative jackass, why don't you explain to us how it was a business decision. You know, try some civil discussion given that it's the entire purpose of this board. Instead of berating people with your (not so) humble brag about knowing Ja'Kobi since the womb, why don't you politely discuss and set us all straight.

As I said before, it's a well-accepted belief that he turned down quite a bit more money from Villanova to come to Tennessee. That doesn't sound like a business decision at face value. Are you saying that isn't true?

I know there is a lot of focus on Rice and Ament, deservedly so, but I have watched Gabriel Pozzato play a couple of times and man he is a player. He gets to rim, shoots it well, and plays with high energy. I know there is a back issue that is making teams hesitant to pursue him, but I think he would be an ideal 3 man or 6th man off the bench. I think if there is any way you could land 3 of Ament/Rice/Pozzato/Freeman you are really looking at a very dangerous team offensively. I know Alvaro can play, but I just do not see room in the front court for another big who could not at least play the 3 for a period of time unless JP is transferring.

No specific intel there.

I use to day drink like this guy, the guy who has known Gillespie his whole life

Gave up the gig a day ago.

Good times

Whoops - kinda scrolled past all that. I must say, I did think “this dude must be ooold.”
But regarding your statement, so many of Kramer‘s funny moments are set up by George. Such as the Photoshop/dermatologist episode. George’s pettiness sort of drives most of the funny scenarios.
