2025 Transfer Portal Thread

In the Trilly discord, Arman Jovic (plugged in international scout) says that Quaintance to UK has pretty much taken them out of the Alvaro battle and it’s now down to Providence and UT, “barring any last second mega offer”. He’s been plugged in on this recruitment from very early on, so encouraging for us hopefully.

Originally committed to Kentucky out of high school but when Calipari bolted he decided to go to ASU. Guess Pope has proved to Quaintance that he is a decent HC...
I’ve seen he is a top 5 pick in 2026. If that’s the case, I’m not sure why he doesn’t just jump to the NBA. I know he is getting millions in NIL, but a truly elite prospect like that should be rushing to get to his second contract.

Damn English about to crawl his way into that one lol

Based on that, it sounds like he likes it here, but wants to be in Florida. I get it, though...same reason we landed Gillespie.

Well for him at UF playing time will be a issue, travel for his family can be rough because I think he is one of seven.

I still think we have a good chance. Especially if we can work some family travel into the plan.

If he doesn't get a first round guarantee, then he is good with taking his couple of million this year to get into the first round. That's what makes NIL interesting. I don't think I have seen him in any mock drafts at all. At that point, it is worth being patient for a year and maximizing your earnings.

I hear you there, but with the focus so much on potential for the NBA draft, it’d be unusual for a guy who is thought to be top-5 next year not be slotted for at least the first round (if not lottery) for this year. The evaluation process makes it pretty much risk-free to test the waters so Im just surprised he’s not going that route at least.

Hell just take Alvaro and Ament

Gillespie
Rice
Ament
Alvaro
Okpara

Main Bench: Carey, Cade, JP

Get one more guard and let’s go win a natty
Trip I gotta give credit where credit is due. You're kinda like a whack-a-mole of recruiting. Entertaining and addictive in an odd way. Props.

I wonder what a reasonable expectation would be with Freeman in year 1.

I heard former Auburn coach Sonny Smith once say take a junior college player’s stats and divide them in half and that should be close to the expected ceiling for his first year in major college ball. Smith recruited a lot of JC players through the years.

What differentiates a junior college from a Division 2 school? Which one is a higher level of competition usually?

If kid was concerned about being close to home then FAU or even UM or FIU is lots closer and makes more sense then Gainesville. Wellington is in South Florida in Palm Beach. Gainesville is still a 4-5 hour drive home where he is from.

Maybe I turn out wrong, struggle to see us having a spot/money to take him along what we currently have and then still pursue Ament/Freeman

This is where it gets sticky for us a bit... taking Alvaro would basically be shutting the door on Freeman and might also make Ament a harder pull. Unless we're basically offering Ament the 3 spot and the DK role.

Ament is a mostly perimeter player and he weighs like 190 lbs, I think he projects much better at the 3

Coming off of a torn ACL. Just had surgery on March 19th. Not a great selling point for a kid who only averaged 9 and 8 in 30 minutes for a bad ASU team. He might not even go 1st round if he left this year.

Body wise he does...but hard to tell if he has point forward handles or shooting or even lateral quickness to defend the 3.

Not saying he doesn't, just that's harder to know from HS highlights.

If you land a legit 6'10" body though that can defend the wing and has the skillset to drive and create shots for himself....lord
