2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Punter also listed as 6'2" at UT and played PG...no one was comparing them as the same player. The point was made that Punter was a score first point in his 1 year under Barnes but didn't take near the volume of shots as Chaz/DK. So it's possible to see offense without 500+ attempts on a Barnes team.

TJ Ford is another example and closer resembles Gillespie in size/game (Gillespie is a better outside shooter though).
Yeah, I didn’t recall Punter being 6-5. I recall him as about 6-2.

I think it speaks even more volumes about them

Sometimes the best team doesn't always win, especially in March when luck is also involved
Some degree of luck is involved is all sports, at every level. But remember, there's two kinds of luck-----good luck, bad luck

So we allegedly are supposed to hear something about Carey soon, right? Per BTO?

Has anyone provided an update on the Freeman kid from LMU in a while? I've missed it if so. I know he's from a much lower level, but he intrigues me, especially since he has multiple years of eligibility.

We all hope so.
You got any inside info you can share?

Yeah, I actually think Evans is gonna surprise folks this year for that reason.

He is already built like Gainey is this year.
Gotta be honest. When it comes to freshmen...in this conference...under Barnes, I tend to take an even more pessimistic outlook than usual. Hope we don't have to depend on youngsters next season.

This is fair, honestly. Aside from Kennedy Chandler, the Vols under Barnes haven't had the greatest of luck depending on highly touted freshmen to be big time contributors. Keon and Springer certainly weren't bad, and I give a lot of grace to freshmen and young players during that 2020-21 COVID affected season. But still, KC is probably the only 5-star caliber player under Barnes who has lived up to the billing, and almost all the highly rated post players we've landed have struggled to be truly impactful right away.

Ament would be a different caliber of freshman post that we've ever landed under Barnes, but I don't think you're wrong for being very skeptical about relying on him and Evans if it comes down to Evans also having to play a lot of minutes as a freshman.

Somewhere in Florida I believe from reading the tea leaves

I don't know what he'd be if he was a PG. But DK and Lanier shot average of 570 times.
Mark sears shot about 500 , Clayton Jr. shot around 500 while Gillespie shot 400.
Maybe we ask him to shoot more ? a 100 more? I'm not sure.
My guess is we will go after Lamar Wilkerson hard.. he shot closer to 480. You increase his volume number to 515 and that would be doable.
100 more is only 3 shots a game so not a crazy ask if that’s what Barnes does.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that Boswell didn't jump in the portal. Maybe he's on the Phillips track?
Hard to tell what we have with him. He’s really quick, seems to have a decent handle and his shot looks good coming off his hand. The game seemed to move a little fast for him this past season but that’s just experience.

I don’t think we want to do exactly what we did the past 2 years where we had one primary scorer, and if the were shut down, we were done, seems we may want to spread it around more.
We did spread it more this year. 23-24, yes it was Knecht or no one. This year we had better spread. We won games where Lanier wasn’t on.

This year we were able to win games with Knecht in a different part of the country. Huge progress.
We were almost good enough to win it all. With a healthy Estrella we might’ve been good enough. By the end of the year we were way better offensively than where we started the year, which is partly why the first half against Houston was frustrating. We stopped doing the things we did to improve offensively. It wasn’t just offense though. Houston played with more intensity than us that first half. They got almost anything they wanted against our defense too. I think that’s what bothered me most. F4 on the line and we didn’t match the intensity of Houston. That’s why our offense was stagnant and our defense looked like Swiss cheese from the norm.

Clayton is a stud. He has a bright future in the league.
He might be the best tough shot maker I’ve seen in college since Lofton. The kid makes some really tough shots and has a crazy quick release. Now, there’s a large gap between Lofton (GOAT of tough shots) and Clayton but Clayton is the best I’ve seen in the last 15 years or so.

There are some insane things being posted about Gillespie all over the place. Maybe people forget how good Punter was as a Senior. Maybe they don't understand the intangible qualities that made Zakai Zeigler special. These comparisons feel unfair though.

I think he is perfect for us. I wanted him when he was in HS as I'm from the area and really believed in him.

But it feels like we are setting some people up for disappointment.

He has a really solid game and is a good shooter. He can most certainly be the PG if a Final Four team. We just need to keep adding the pieces.
We don’t need him to be someone else. He can be his own thing so a few years from now we will say we hope x is like Gillespie.

I'd like to see the statistics of that and compare SOS.

The SEC was historically great this year and Florida dominated the whole year
Florida didn’t win the SEC though. Don’t get wrong, they’re very good and I picked them to get this far but they’re not historically great by any means.
