2025 Transfer Portal Thread

That's a far cry from the $2-3M the media is posting as the going rate for portal PG's this year. Maybe the media--or agents-- are just making up numbers
That’s probably factoring in a hometown discount and lack of state income taxes so I’m sure there are a fair number of schools offering 2-3 million.

You're saying this based on height alone? Mark Sears is 6'1 and does a fine job drawing fouls and finishing at the rim. Kyrie is the best finisher in the NBA at 6'2.
Well you look at Mark Sears wrong and the refs would call a foul.

I know there is 0% chance he returns.

But what do you think a fair offer for Queen would be?
A high one. I’m on a slack thread with two agents. They make the case that we’re getting to a place where NIL math is approaching the value of a rookie contract. I understand the time value of getting to the second NBA contract, but they think we’ll see big brand programs offer contracts that tempt the player to play another college season. The ESPN interview with Queen was interesting because he implied that he would’ve stayed there if his coach hadn’t gone. Obviously feels like an absurd stretch, but the trend may change the outcome soon.

I guess fair is a hard thing to define in this era, because we are watching guys like Great Osobor get overpaid to go to Washington. Personally, I don’t think any college player should be getting more than $1-$1.5 million for a single year. I think that’s more than fair.

Info came from one step away from the family. A close step away, but maybe that was just the starting point. I could text the family member but not going to. I'm sure the whole of Greene County is trying to find out

I don’t disagree about what’s fair, but I think we’re going to see double that soon. When you think about the dollar value of a program like Texas making a FF, the value of the players that get you there is easily over 10mm across five starters. It’s about to get gross.

My original reply was to the guy saying Ziegler was too limited by his height and that Gillespie would be an obvious upgrade over him because he’s 6’1”. If the eyeball test doesn’t tell you that Ziegler was the best point guard in the country this season, then advanced stats do (such as this ranking by Evan Miya of the best players in the country).

My main point is that you can be excited about incoming transfers without trashing outgoing players.

Yeah, I’m not naive enough to think what’s “fair” is where the market is headed. We’re without a doubt headed to an inflated market and until some actual guardrails are put in place (if they ever are) “NIL” AKA salaries are going to increase year-over-year.

It’s sad, because I do think this is going to harm the parity of the sport, particularly with the increase to 15 scholarships. I don’t think this year’s major dud of a tournament is a blip. I think this is the new standard and we’ve just reached the point where the sport is experiencing the realization of the portal era.

Teams are just going to stockpile talent with a 15-person roster now and the little guy, and even some lesser P4 programs, are going to have no chance.

Using Evan Miya is all I needed to see.
