2025 Transfer Portal Thread

From Basilio's blog this morning:

"Isaac McKneely, perhaps the best 3-point shooter in the entire portal is expected to be on UT's campus today. Tennessee is rolling up their sleeves with designs on getting back to the second weekend of the 2026 tournament. The 6-4 McKneely is a guy that shot 42 percent from 3-point land and was really the only player worth guarding on a moribund Virginia team. He's considered a very good shooter when his feet aren't set. He's expected to take less money to play at Tennessee than Louisville is offering. This would mark the second consecutive season Tennessee has gotten their high-profile shooting guard for less than the competition is offering.

Tennessee is selling McKneely on holding down the role occupied by Knecht and Lanier the past couple of years. This is seen as a coveted role in the sport ... It's one that apparently speaks to McKneely. That's interesting stuff and speaks to the culture Rick Barnes has. My belief is that UT could end up with at least 6 or perhaps 7 new portal faces ... especially if the NCAA slow rolls implementation of the would-be blanket 5th year for all athletes.

One final thing to watch going forward with this class ... Tennessee is going offensive first ... Don't expect Mashack types going forward. Tennessee is adjusting to the trend in the nation toward prioritizing players featuring a more offensive game. We'll deep dive on UT's portal activities as it unfolds."

I think he will be a good player, but 10000% don’t see him being a Lanier or Knecht…more of a Santi

Taking players from non power 4 schools in the portal is such a crap shoot. You have guys like Sears, Clayton jr and Broome who become all Americans and then you have guys Darlinstone who looked liked he didn't belong at all besides a few moments.
Have you ever heard of Dalton Knecht and Chaz Lanier and Jordan Gainey?

Anything on that Alvaro kid? UK seems prettttty confident.
You know, I actually prefer Kaleb Banks to Alvaro. Alvaro's 3 pt percentage is hugely impressive, but Banks is no slouch -- actually averages more points per game and shoots 34% from 3. Not bad.

But Banks looks like a much better and longer defender.

After seeing how effective the long-armed bouncy forwards were for Houston yesterday, I feel like Banks gives Tennessee something it currently doesn't return.

Banks gives me PTSD mostly because he is built just like Dubar….and they both wear that little armband.

Banks: 14.7 / 6.7
50% FG
34% 3PT
73% FT

Dubar: 17.8 / 6.8
53% FG
39% 3PT
73% FT

Banks does play for a better team, so he has that going for him.

Mckneely definitely took more 2’s than Santi and FTs as well, don’t have a shot chart so not sure if that was midrange or at the rim, but just thought I’d mention. As you said though definitely not a Knecht or even a Lanier from the 2 point aspect most likely, unless he changes, with that said if telling him that’s how you see him gets as you a discount go for it, but I would still look to be adding someone who can get into the lane to play alongside him.

I understand. I think Dubar's personal struggles and missed time really affected him. Just like Santi Vescovi was never the same for us after losing his grandmother and coming back.

That said, IMO Banks is a much better defender at a higher level already. He has also shown to be a much more versatile scorer IMO. Dubar really was just a catch and shoot guy at Hofstra.

And Banks was doing this against better comp than Dubar and Alvaro for that matter. Again JMO and I understand your point.

I think McKneely is a bit in between Chaz and Santi. He's better at taking off balance shots than Santi, but I don't think he's the sort of athlete that Chaz is.

Santi shot 37.2% 3PT for 10.3 PPG in his career here...flashing in year 3 where he was 40.3% for 13.3 ppg
Chaz finished at 39.5% 3PT for 18.0 PPG in his season here

If McKneely can be a 15-16 PPG guy and knock down close to 40% he'd be a great addition.

Banks was a top 100 national player out of HS, is actually 6'7"-6'8" and played 2 full seasons at Indiana before moving on to be a starter for Tulane.

Not sure he'd be preferred over Alvaro, but I don't think he'll be disappointing like Dubar was.

Awww man even similar paths 😭😭😭

Dubar played at Iowa State and arguably played better than Banks did at Indiana

Both played for red teams.

PTSD just went up even more now .

For a portal fiend you sure **** on random players for the weirdest reasons...

We're gonna have to take 6 or more portal guys and we don't have the NIL for all of them to be Dalton or Chaz level good. Gotta get a few off the bench dudes or guys that will play 15 mpg.

I never said they had to be Chaz or DK level good?
