DefenseAlso, why do people think Abram will start over Massamba? I know the vet v. freshman, but I don't know testing G-League with eye toward NBA does sound pretty indicative of an expected role. I like both, and one will be 6th man, but just saying that IF Abram starts that probably means he's a very good player for the level because otherwise you'd think it would be Massamba.
True, but that kid ranked #1 and headed to BYU I think is clearly in a league of his own. Kid is something and much stronger than ament although one site had ament at 215 and the BYU kid at 210. Not buying that.
Thanks for the inside info.Regarding Massamba…there’s a solid chance we could hear of his signing today. If not, it should be before the weekend…but no worries at all…Massamba is going to be a Vol. This will put us at 12 guys, likely holding a spot open until the 15 player rule goes into effect. We don’t expect Vols to take anymore meaningful minute guys (looking at Kennedy Okpara and maybe another developmental project) outside of the slim chance the 5th year passes AND applies to this 2025 senior class…ala Jordan Gainey. There is a tad optimism it may pass, but it could be only going forward and not applied to the past, meaning it would not go into effect until 2026 seniors.
I am optimistic; not like he's just gonna be doing nothing on the court. Sure he doesn't have the pedigree of McKneely or Rice, but he can flat out shoot the ball. Think people will be pleasantly surprised.

Fully growing into his frame should take only 1 year with Garrett M as a Vol.Regarding Ament--
He definitely has the size and skill to be special. NBA written all over him to be able to handle it and move at that size/length. Just a question of when he fully grows into that frame.
He's bigger than Alijah also .Also worth noting that he put up very similar numbers to Alijah Martin during his last year at FAU, against pretty comparable competition and on a worse team. Not that they're the same player, but the point is you can win a national championship with a guy with this pedigree as your third guard.
Agreed but wouldn’t he be the second guard tho? Sorry for the light posting in the last week. I took a vacation and also got a little pushback on sharing so much. Summary is that the Knecht/Lanier phenomena have made Barnes a bit of a Portalstilskin and other coaches really pursue players he’s in on. Rice made a lot of money on our interest. In this last week, everyone has been really cautious about sharing anything until deals are done. My friend asked me not to talk about Massamba last week, and then Monday asked me “Are you Todd Kirk?”. Winning. The time dedicated Massamba is an investment the staff thinks will pay big dividends. His aggression can’t be taught and he’s very physically developed for his age. He’s flashed off an on our radar quite often over the last year, but various things got in the way. The last hurdle was a change in his visa which was completed yesterday. Hard to gauge how quickly he’ll contribute but he’s a big pickup. Abram is a kid who is better than his numbers. Hes been victim of a bad situation at GT, and a desperate situation at Tech. He has the potential to be much better playing a role that fits, with good coaching and other good players. Obviously the floor of this team is not as solid as the last couple of years, but the ceiling for late season is exciting if everyone gels.
