2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I’m sure you’re not alone there, but also not sure we don’t see a lot of improvement from him from his freshman to sophomore year. May not ever be an offensive juggernaut, but as the game slows down for him, his CP3 highlights show really good vision. Imo
May also be why CRB hasn’t made a big effort to find another backup pg. all this jmo
Maybe you’re right and I’m too hard on him. But the image of him being completely ignored both by his teammates and the other team haunt me. But I try not to rag on TN kids too much so I won’t be negative anymore. Of course I’m rooting for him and I’m sure he’d working on being able to do more on offense

It seems like CRB is close to finishing his roster reset for the 2025-26 season. I just wonder if there is any consideration about a physical big that can play 4 and 5? I know we added Carey and Brown. I just remember the feeling we had as we watched Houston pound us. I hope we have enough "glass eaters" on the team.

Assuming Estrella and the rest of our bigs are healthy, I would be shocked if we get dominated on the glass again like that.

I didn’t take it as you ragging at all. Just went back and watched his film again tho, and was weirded out at how different of a player he was here last year. So I’m hoping he makes a significant jump.

Not sure what the competition looked like but 👀
Élan Chalon, the team he played, is currently 7th out of 16 teams in the LNB Pro A league. According to Wikipedia, the LNB Pro A league is “a professional basketball league in France and is the highest level of the French basketball system”.

Massamba’s team, Monaco, is 1st in the standings. Could we be getting a huge steal? I’m finding it hard to reign myself in.

hope some site offers a clue to level play

btw, is stephen pearl the all-time knoxville west scorer?

Not gonna assume anything with Estrella. If we get a shot at a physical big who can play, you add him.

Imo yes… I’m leading the Massamba fan club! I think he is a 5 star caliber prospect and a future NBA player.

How quickly does he adjust to the college game? Not sure, but imo he’s Keon Johnson with a higher ceiling/better offensive skillset.

im not convinced we are getting him.

Well we need somebody to play a bit of PG, and respectfully, I don’t want it to be Boswell.

My worry about that second point is that maybe that means he’s pulling up a bunch instead of getting to the rim. His two point shooting percentage (47%) isn’t sterling

I don’t have a strong opinion on him (would be strange if I did, never seen him play), but I do have some worry. He seems like a solid starter but also seems like a guy we’re counting on to be our third option offensively, and I’d rather he be fourth or fifth. Maybe the French guy develops quickly or Carey is really ready for a consistent role
I think Gillespie will be a 35-36mpg guy, those 4/5 could be Abram, or it could be Henderson, Boswell, Ament, Gainey if he’s back, Massamba, or another add as well. Whoever it is my guess is they’ll be solid with the ball if Barnes is giving it to them for the 4-5mpg.

Per Barttorvik he was at about 1.4 pull up attempts per game, 3.3 rim attempts per game, for comparison Lanier was 4.8 pull up attempts a game and 1.9 rim attempts per game. Abram was actually very comparable to ZZ in number of rim attempts and pull up 2 attempts per game, actually almost identically at 1.3 and 3.3 respectively, but Zeigler shot almost 4x as many free throws interestingly enough.

I would say 4th option, behind Gillespie, Ament & Carey imo, which I think is solid…last year the 4th option in our starting 5 was Mashack, I think Abram would be an improvement there imo.

One huge thing is going to be if Ament can consistently hit close to vols last two years top scorers. I think offensively Gillespie matches ZZ, Abrams can match Mashack, Carey matches Igor.

Can flying Frenchman, Estrella, or Cade match Gainey's sixth man output will also be important. He essentially became second best scorer last third of the season.

Great points, but one thing you’re forgetting is the depth of this team vs. last year. The starting lineup averaged 54 points last year with the bench averaging only 20. 12 of those 20 bench points were from Gainey.

If you assume, as you mentioned, that Gillespie matches ZZ’s 14 (JG averaged 15 last year), Carey matches Igor’s 9, Okpara is the same at 7, and then Abram matches Shack’s 6 (I think Abram can be more of a 9-11 guy)…you’re left with 18 from Chaz and 20 from bench to equal 38.

Let’s just say Ament averages 13, though we think it’ll be closer to upper teens like Chaz had. That leaves you at 25 points between Phillips, Estrella, Massamba, Boswell, and Evans. Lots more to spread out those bench points to than Gainey, Phillips, and Dubar.
