Do we still care that he cheated now that it’s legal? Sure, he was dumb for being so brazen but it’s not anything everyone else wasn’t doing. He would’ve gotten a slap on the wrist if he was at Kansas or UNC.Absolutely nothing wrong with Shaka Smart and I'd bet he'd be in play for the job, honestly.
But Will Wade...geez, I hope Danny White is smarter than that.
It just makes me wonder how irresponsible and reckless he'd be in every other avenue. Not worth the risk to me.Do we still care that he cheated now that it’s legal? LSU would’ve been smart to tell the NCAA to F off and stand behind Wade.
It absolutely matters. Throw any ethics about what he is doing out the window and don't even give that any weight. You do not hire him simply due to the fact that it shows a serious lack of intelligence to "work outside the rules which was rampant" but do it in such an idiotic way. Same argument for Pruitt. Were other programs also working out side the rules during his tenure? Absolutely. But you have an easy argument to never hire him because if the idiotic way in which he operated out the rules. There is almost no difference between Wade and Pruitt other than the fact that Wade had some success before he was caught. Pruitt was caught more quickly because he didn't have any success early on.Do we still care that he cheated now that it’s legal? I guess it’s never been “illegal” to be a complete jack wagon, but I still don’t want one as our coach. Going to be hard for the next guy compared to the level of class our current coach displays. If I’m allowed a vote it’s a hard pass on WW.Do we still care that he cheated now that it’s legal? Sure, he was dumb for being so brazen but it’s not anything everyone else wasn’t doing. Really, that's a solid point. Both Pearl and Wade are good coaches, both are proven winners, both have NCAA rap sheets, and personally (IMO) both are pretty despicable people. If we are going to hire someone with a past, it's got to be Pearl. He annually takes whatever he has and makes a winner out of it. On the other hand, I might stop watching if we hire WW.
Knowing DW, and considering that this program has had sustained success, I don’t think there’s any chance he even considers Will Wade when CRB retires. We will be a very attractive destination.I think my moral compass would shatter on the spot if our program went from Rick Barnes to Woman Hips Will Wade.
I've been meaning to ask, on Burries, is the disproportionate NIL offer from Oregon? They seem to have a history with that and they are out west, which for him I can understand would be attractive.Yesterday at the game, I sat with my usual source and his friend who is a prominent donor. Here are a couple of observations that will probably make for some frustrating waiting.
All of Mashack, ZZ and Gainey would return for the NIL and play one more year if additional eligibility is granted. Slive and White have expressed their disappointment at the timeline, but they believe the NCAA is intentionally going to push the decision out until it is not actionable by current Seniors. They don’t like making changes that appear to benefit current Seniors. I don’t know why. It’s rotten.
We have had massive portal interest and may focus almost entirely there, and not signing many more HS recruits, given the level of experience in our losses. Several very good/very experienced guards have reached out through representatives. This isn’t surprising, but is a shift.
Burries has gotten a disproportionate NIL offer from another team and Barnes may shake his head no on that. This is the most difficult loss if they change tack. My friends seemed frustrated about this one, like it’s been a slog. I love this kid. It isn’t over, but there is some late hustling, and that can alienate CRB.
Mallory is probably 50/50 us. UVA is in his milk every day, and I’m sure he is getting back door info on the search. We are in a strong position if they can’t close him, but there is talk that he may commit regardless of where the search is publicly. His date is under two weeks away. At least we won’t sweat this long.
We aren’t in it with Ament now, though he had a great visit. He loved the visit, but he’s getting nuclear sized offers. No surprise there.
No one will answer the “will Barnes retire this (or next) Summer?” question. They are doing everything as though he’ll return and stay years, but the recent shift away from young players gives me pause. Could be a strategic shift, or they might be building a swing big now team.
As always, there will be an end of year meeting with every player. I assume he’ll push the old guys fully out of the nest. He’s not going to ask them to wait unless we get strong signals they can come back. Bishop wants to stay, but we might move on. Estrella has been down during the injury, but is almost fully recovered. He’ll work again with a private coach this Summer. His offense was great last Summer and hopefully he’ll pick up where he left off.
Given the core of bigs, this will be a very blue collar banging team. We have some very interesting portal options at guard, and Burries and Mallory remain options. We’re just going to have to ride out a lot of fan whining until the roster is built.

Still yet, they are Oregon...the Big 10 is an island of misfit toys for them. They are hidden in plain sight by geography and frankly they are just an afterthought, nationally.
I'll be more concerned if the offer is coming from Bama due to their higher profile and similar offerings to what Tennessee can provide as a program.
I’m in the Trilly discord. Arizona seems to have a lot of confidence talking to some in there. It makes sense tho. They missed out on a recruit. I can’t remember who, and I think turned the heat up on BurriesInteresting. They were originally who I thought he was most likely to commit to and due to proximity. Then Tennessee seemed to grab a lot of momentum folling his OV. I figured Oregon or Bama may have felt they needed to overpay.
Well, if we miss on him and Mallory, this freshmen class is pretty blah. It also puts us in position to have to build the majority of our roster thru the portal, which I've never been a fan of. I've always believed in the idea of taking 3-4 freshmen, a few impact transfers (always including at least 1 high-level scorer, if not a couple), and then developing our existing guys. We are facing the idea of potentially having 2 freshmen, 4 returnees, and then potentially half of our roster being transfers.I’m in the Trilly discord. We would’ve fought for and kept Pruitt if he was an elite coach. Our AD sold him out to save money and move on from an all time bad hire. Biggest difference between them is Pruitt comes off as likable (probably due to his love of cornbread and accent), Wade is easy to dislike. It absolutely matters. Based on the war room today at volquest they don't seem too enthused at vols landing any of the top 3 prospects. Say Mallory would be a great fit but rumblings are that another school may value Mallory way more than vols.Well, if we miss on him and Mallory, this freshmen class is pretty blah.
