My first instinct is to grab the next best option to Ament and move on. Just not wild about our history with these 5 star one and done types. Plus I think a kid that's more physically mature might adapt to the SEC and Barnes more readily. Gut feeling.....we wait around too long and end up missing out on Ament as well as their plan B candidate. His original announcement date was 4-1. I don’t think it’ll go past mid next week, but that’s a guess. Teams have to be telling him that he has to decide. Too much portal activity for him to sit on it much longer.
It seems like now may be the time to move on. HS Top Recruits account on X posted ament in his duke jerseyMy first instinct is to grab the next best option to Ament and move on. It’s been speculated he would reclass for months. With so much NIL already committed and spots filled, only a few that can come up with his number now though. He’s very good with a terrific pro ready body and as you say most speculation is around Duke and UL.Another rogue element is the possibility that Tyran Stokes reclassifies for this class. If so, Louisville or Duke might prioritize him. It’s strange how quickly he went from talking about his final AAU/HS season to canceling AAU and going silent. I assume money might move him up a year. This is not a discussion we’re currently in, but could affect Ament outcome. All speculation on my part. No source.
Well to be fair, we haven’t landed a guy ranked this highly before. And the 5 star one and dones we had were good college players. Chandler, Springer, and Keon. JJJ and BHH were not 5 star caliber guys, but overall it isn’t like we have struck out with all our 5 stars. My first instinct is to grab the next best option to Ament and move on. Let’s hope. That sounds promising. With supposedly Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Nate Ament being tight and one youtube show i watched said they wouldnt mind playing together gives me a little hope that if Rice commits also that Ament may see out front court being solid and with the two guards really having a chemistry that he could come in and take a solid hold on the 3 spot and this team could really contend for a final four next year.
Where's this video? To be honest if it's Gillespie saying those things it's different. Plus how long the video was. How long ago was that? With supposedly Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Nate Ament being tight and one youtube show i watched said they wouldnt mind playing together gives me a little hope that if Rice commits also that Ament may see out front court being solid and with the two guards really having a chemistry that he could come in and take a solid hold on the 3 spot and this team could really contend for a final four next year.
You misheard. Gillespie was saying that he’s “tight with a mint” as in he doesn’t like to share his altoids. Not an ideal attitude for your PG, but understandable imo.
Not sure which video it was. I don’t sleep at night and watch tons of sports videos on YouTube. So honestly they run together after a while. It’s possible I may have misunderstood or the guy talking could have been speculating.Where's this video? To be honest if it's Gillespie saying those things it's different. Sounds like a wonderful kid. Barnes would be such a great guy to lead this kid for a year before he goes to the NBA.Worth a read to get a perspective on Ament and his family background.

What a great story. I did not know that Paolo Banchero was his mentor. As I recall, we were once expecting to land Paolo, and he surprised us by going elsewhere last minute. In any case, I wonder if that could be how we got our foot in the door. I’m sure Paolo has good things to say about Barnes and Tennessee.Worth a read to get a perspective on Ament and his family background.
