2025 Seed Watch Party Thread

Jerry Palms bracket has us facing UCLA in the 2nd round in Lexington. I'd say this the best matchup we could get, UCLA struggles to score the ball and is defense first plus they would be traveling on the road to play across the country

Latest bracketology from lunardi … has Houston 1. Vols 2. Same region. Those two teams meet for a final 4 birth. Both teams better bring a helmet and pads …. Pure defensive struggle
I think this is where we go, god forbid we lose to USCjr. If we handle biz and Auburn handlez biz vs Bama we are nearly a lock here unless we get the 1 seed

My realistic hope is this…

Auburn beats Bama, that should lock them below us and have us likely matched up with Houston in the Midwest bracket worst case, which seems like a decent draw considering.

However it would also mean we’re the 3 with Florida the 2, we’d play them Saturday if both teams won their opening games, could that potentially be enough if the committee views those 2 teams to tie break them? Could Florida catch a L on Friday and open that door, just a thought.
Staying ahead of Bama would also put us in Lexington for the first weekend of the NCAAT.

I noticed Lunardi had us as Cleveland why is that?
Probably not paying attention. It happens when you’re trying to crank these things out while also doing your full time job. This is his busiest time of year.

Edit: for those who don’t know, he’s the long-time color commentator for St. Joseph’s men’s basketball and was the Director of Media Relations/Vice President for University Marketing & Communications until joining ESPN full time five years ago.

BTO who will be the 1 seed playing in Lexington? Trying to figure out if it’s worth taking a risk buying tickets before teams are announced

Updated seed list:

Auburn
Duke
Houston
Florida
——————————
Alabama
Tennessee
Michigan State
Wisconsin
——————————
Texas Tech
St. John’s
Texas A&M
Kentucky

Todays games:
12:00pm: Kentucky vs. Missouri
12:00pm: St. John’s vs. Marquette
1:00pm: Penn State vs. Wisconsin
2:30pm: Alabama vs. Auburn
4:00pm: Texas A&M vs. LSU
6:00pm: Ole Miss vs. Florida
6:30pm: Duke vs. North Carolina
8:00pm: Texas Tech vs. Arizona State
10:00pm: Houston vs. Baylor

Cheering for a lot of home teams so definitely some potential for some chaos, most on this list aren’t likely to be all that impactful to us, but never know, clearly the biggest games for us are…

2:30pm: Alabama vs. Auburn
6:00pm: Ole Miss vs. Florida
10:00pm: Houston vs. Baylor

Assume we’ll hop back in front of bama if we win today and they lose to Auburn as expected?
That's the Bracket Matrix summary, which includes people who are good at this and other who are not so good. If you want to go by Joe Lunardi, who is the most revered in this field, he has us ahead of Alabama - some also think the selection committee leaks info to him to bolster the accuracy of his predictions as an unofficial mouthpiece. That being said, I don't think anyone would argue we're in front of Bama on the committee's s-curve at this time, especially since they've lost 4 of 6 and we beat them last weekend.

All this to say, I believe we are ahead of Alabama on the one list that matters and as long as we win today, we'll be in Lexington for the first weekend, along with Auburn. If we lose today, I expect to see Alabama there instead of us.

Probably good to assume we would be session 2?
Assume nothing when it comes to session & game times for the 1st round, other than West coast sites will be the last to start and last to finish. These will be announced shortly after the bracket is released. It all depends on other locations playing that day and who is at those locations, which nobody knows until the bracket reveal.

For Lexington, it's safe to say Session One will start around noon/12:30, and Session Two will begin around 6:30/7 pm.

Mouthpiece, yes. Revered, definitely not.

I think we are probably ahead of them as of today as well, but probably pretty close given most thought prior to both of our recent losses it was neck and neck and in theory their loss probably was a little better than ours. I think an argument could again be made that if we are tied today, or even slightly in front of them, them winning AT Auburn would be enough to make a case to move them in front of us if we beat SC at home. Nothing is definitive or clear, but I think they’d at least have a plausible argument.

He is by many. Not by you (and others) but everyone has an opinion. Would "arguably revered" make you feel better? LOL
My feelings are fine either way. Objectively he is not revered. People might inaccurately believe he’s a good prognosticator or accurately believe he has good sources and is used as a messenger. Revered implies great admiration and respect. That does not describe Lunardi.

This is the type of scenario in which I think the SECT results will actually affect the tournament seeding in the big Tournament
