But how do we realistically get into the top 5? We know teams like Bama, UGA, TX and OSU are gonna be in the top 4 every year. So that leaves one spot. How do we out recruit USC? LSU? Oregon?

I just don’t see us getting into the top 5 anytime soon.

We haven’t had a top 5 class since Butch was here so i don’t think we will ever out recruit those teams you mentioned. Hopefully the 26 class can get inside the top ten that’s probaly the best we can hope for.

What's interesting to me is that I looked at their list a couple of days ago (they hadn't finalized the 2025 data, but they had cleaned up the roster removing Nico, Squirrel, the seniors etc) and counted 6 five star players and 41 four star players. In the final version, the 47 are broken down as 4 five star players and 43 four star players. Same number of blue chip players, just slightly different. I think Hobbs and Campbell were the two that were five stars at that time.

We seem to take too many 3*'s early. I know that the staff sees something in these guys, but if you want to be 3rd or 4th in this ranking, you have to play the numbers game. It's simple math. If you want to improve, you need to sign a higher percentage of 4* and 5*'s, and reduce the percentage of 3*'s you take based on the total number of players signed.

Since the Team Talent Composite debuted for the 2015 season, 9 of 10 national champions have resided in the top 10, and 8 of 10 were top six.

Auburn stands out big time as an underachieving program when you go by these rankings in conference. UT is clearly overachieving using the same data. Having A good football coach means a lot.

This composite is always interesting but you have to see how the pieces fit together…and of course the QB can make the whole team better (or worse)…I believe both Dobbs and Hooker had very strong positive impact on the entire team while JG was the biggest negative impact QB we’ve ever had…

Agree. I don’t think we can get a top 5 class though, esp in consecutive yrs. The 2026 class will be Heup’s best, yet most likely 9th or 10th at best, nationally.

Not to mention Michigan, FL, and USC. Plus Miami will climb the ladder with a few good seasons.

That’s why I see us at 7-10 at best.

We were 8th in team talent compared to the the SEC last year (https://247sports.com/season/2024-football/collegeteamtalentcomposite/?Conference=SEC).
Some other things to consider from last year's SEC talent,
1. Oklahoma was 4th in the SEC,
2. LSU was 5th in the SEC,
3. Texas A&M was 6th in the SEC,
4. Florida was 7th in the SEC,
5. Mississippi was 11th in the SEC, and
6. SC was 12th in the SEC.
Team Talent is an imperfect predictor of a team's win count.
