2025 NBA Season Thread aka Draymond's Annual Wealth Destruction Tour

they also start down 1 - 0 and the series is completely different without his whacky 3/2 pointer at the end of regulation.

I honestly think it's kind of a tie between the two, because they both had off games and guys like bryant had their moments.

Haliburton doesn't tie game 1 up without Nesmith going absolutely crazy from the 3 minute mark either
I think Hali had one off game and Pascal had 3 where you barely noticed him

maybe too much was made about game 5

a big thing i noticed this series is you could not rattle Haliburton. Brunson kept the knicks alive several times but he had as much fault in losing the series as KAT because when the pacers D'd up on him, he was SHOOK every time

They don't win the series without Siakam, but they really don't win the series without Hali.

Knicks/Pacers series stats

Knicks shot a scorching .583 TS% and were +33 in rebounds. They did lose the turnover margin by 18, but really, this came down to the fact that they could not stop Indiana, who shot a TS% of .606

Haliburton = +14 net rating. Nobody else on Pacers with 100 minutes did better than +6 (Siakam).

Haliburton = 21, 6, and 10.5, shooting .569 with 2.8 stocks and less than 2 TOPG

Siakam = 25, 5, and 3, shooting .601 and just 1 TOPG, and his best stat 50% from 3p

Mitch Robinson = +33 net rating

These numbers tell me the Knicks need to get Giannis so they can beat you up inside for 60 minutes rather than 20.

i think thibodeu has hit his ceiling

They traded for a bad defender and got mad when he turned out to be a bad defender

The scary thing for NYK is that KAT and Brunson played about as well as you can reasonably expect. Bridges and Anunoby were collectively solid. Bridges was a little cold, but somebody is going to be cold. Hart was Hart. The bench went above and beyond. And they still lost and looked outmatched.

They can get better, but how much better?

I feel like they gotta go big for Giannis

sometimes all it would take is to put his ****ing hands up or even stand up straighter

He would have been an amazing, maybe all time great stretch 4 before the big man on the perimeter revolution. He cant be stopped out there, but hes just too slow and too lazy to guard the same type of player that he is

Back in like 2019, he was the most desirable player in the NBA, according to a GM poll

In trying to figure out what makes Haliburton so special, I think I got it...his game quickness (I'm inventing a new term) is on another level. He has pretty quick feet in the traditional sense but he does this thing all the time where he makes a cut, or a hesi, or step back, etc. and he does this thing with his footwork where he resets his feet exactly at a point where the defender has to commit, and then his reaction time to whatever the defender commits to is lightning fast.

Off the stepback on a screen, he can make you commit to him, and then blow by you. If you play drop, he'll hit it. If you blitz it, he'll find the open guy and before you know it, he's beat the double team splitting you on a give and go. Nobody is this quick in processing and passing. GSW does all this, but Steph gets way more turnovers and fewer assists (but of course better shooting/scoring).

The only guy in the league with this size and quickness is Lamelo, who is the polar opposite on the decision-making scale.

hes deceptively athletic and plays like hes in a video game. He can go up and down the court recklessly without turning it over, thats like a cheat code.

Hes long enough to be a problem on defense, getting his fingers on lazy passes.

He doesn't pound the air out of the ball very much and his entire demeanor is just GO, no messing around.

somehow the sum of his game is prettier than any individual aspect, its weird.

“Hey Utah, thanks for letting me blow up your franchise and trade away 2x top 30 players that was a 1 seed a year before I got there. I know none of those picks project to be top 10 and I know we’ve tried to tank for 3 years, but haven’t had a top 5 pick and zero of my draft picks are projected to be all-star caliber. I also won’t trade any assets because I have to get 150% on the dollar in any trade I make. Here’s my son to now run the team!”

Haha, Austin was at BYU the same time as me.

I don't have a problem with Danny Ainge. The Gobert trade was good. The Mitchell trade was good. We just have been super unlucky with the lottery.

2025 - fell 4 spots in a 4-person draft
2024 - fell 2 spots in a bad draft
2023 - didn't fall or climb, loved the pick, but he tore his ACL in year 2

The overall strategy is fine. What I would be livid is that you come in and blow the team up and then hire your son as POBO when he's 4th in the organizational pecking order in another organization after three years.

At BYU, Austin got crap for not deserving starting PG. People acted like he shouldn't have been on scholly. Turned out he was pretty good. Hopefully, it's the same thing here.

I was thinking about what this playoff run means to Carlise as well. Imagine he wins a title. I believe it'd be the biggest upset in the last couple decades in a finals matchup. I think he's already arguably in the top 15 all-time as a HC. That 2011 championship holds a lot of weight on it's own. But he laid the groundwork for a great Pistons era. He won the division and was fired after a conference finals appearance. Winning a title with these pacers would be among the greatest playoff runs for an "underdog" ever.

Of all the coaches with 1 title, he's gotta be at the tippy-top. Not only does his 1 title carry a ton of weight, he's not like Doc Rivers where he's had half a dozen teams that should have been competing for titles. As a young coach in 2004 he had a title contender, and they lost to the eventual champs in the ECF in 6 games. Then he won the title as an underdog in 2011. Now he's in the finals as an underdog again. Basically, in 20 years he's had 3 great teams and they didn't disappoint. He's stacking a resume without stacked lineups in high-profile jobs.

He now has two teams that made the finals playing completely different styles in different eras.
