Simmons keeps saying Dolan is the driving factor behind owners being resistant to expansion
what doesn't make sense to me is how? nobody likes him, he's constantly the lone dissenting vote on plenty of matters and the math clearly shows expansion is the biggest bang for their buck unless they all plan to stay alive and owning teams for ages
I just think it's too hard for these guys to give full effort for 82 games, and the league isn't interested in fewer games.
I would love it if we went to 32 teams, 64-game schedule, and 40-minute games. Playoffs would just be top 16 teams in the table. All that would make the individual games/moments matter more. I also think it would be cool to do Elam ending for regular season.
not asking why dolan would push back, its a given with him. he's on a paranoid warpath against the league. Why would any of the other owners side with him? all hes done is make life in the nba more frustratingToo lazy to remember, but doesn't Dolan only make his money through the Knicks, Rangers and MSG? That's probably why.
The only other teams I can see moving in the next 10-15 years are the Grizzlies (which is unfair but that ownership group you never know) and the Pelicans (the shakiest ownership group in the league from a financial standpoint). The Grizzlies would probably pack up to Nashville or St. Louis. New Orleans, I do not know. Every other place (even Charlotte) seems in pretty good standing right now.
I think 64 games is too light. I think 72 games+ IST would be plenty. Start 1st of November and run through June.
I think there is still untapped real estate, and some cities are also growing.
Seattle (15th largest metro area)
Tampa (17th)
San Diego (18th)
St Louis (23rd)
Pittsburgh (28th)
Vegas (29th)
Cincy (30th)
KC (31st)
And for reference, Salt Lake City = 46th
Hell, Riverside, CA is basically 2 hrs from the Clippers/Lakers (12th biggest metro area). Probably all Lakers fans, but there are other potential American cities, IMO. Whether the league would want that or not, IDK.
I do think, despite the success of the Intuit Dome so far, Balmer missed an opportunity to go back to San Diego in my opinion.
@n_huffhines what am I missing about Amir Coffey? 6'7 that tries hard on defense and shot 41% from 3 on decent volume and only 27. Why can't he get the taxpayer MLE
