So...All their griping about the course this week, and the top 5 early leaders at -2 & -3 and all in their first 7 holes... ALL have clean cards right now with no bogies out of a combined 25ish+ holes.
Seems to have been an advantage for hte first few early morning groups out. As hte day has progressed the scores seem to be creeping up.There’s only 10 guys under par. I think today was expected to be the most gettable setup but may be just imagining that.
I’m pretty sure this is what the expectation was. And like 95 said, today was probably the easiest setup.Seems to have been an advantage for hte first few early morning groups out. As hte day has progressed the scores seem to be creeping up.
All the big boys are running +2 and +4. Barring Koepka and probably Reed the rest of the top 10ish are what I'd call career middlings. Very good but not elite and not who people go in person to watch play. And Reed is only up there right now because he had double eagle roll in from a couple hundred yards on a Par 5. If Spaun was playing his round right now, he wouldn't be -4 like his first out of the gate round. Probably see a really low Rory or Scottie if they had an 9:00 round this morning. Some punishing golf going on right now. I was really not expecting a +6 from olesen, but tickled pink that I got a +4 out of Mickelson. Scottie just dropped to +1, and Conners is holding E thru 6.
Everybody was condemning the course like it would be won with a +20 for the weekend. This course will get harder by the day with play, traffic, and weather. The VN winner this week will likely be doing really good to get into the -20's. Anybody in this joint that hits -30 is a cheater.
I shoulda done more homework on my pics for this week. There's always exceptions and surprises, but I set out to pick guys that have more than one handful of Opens under their belt and/or links type golfers, as this course is wide open. Won't be far removed from any course they play over the pond for The Open. I just went with Scottie cause I figured he'd be scrappy enough to hang in till late sunday, even if he's not a true links type golfer. Same reason I chose Phil. Backside of his game, but long on US Open experience. Conners cause he just seems hot right now. And Olesen for my Euro Links style golfer, and he ended up being my heel today. Scottie, Rory, Brooks, or Bryson all pretty much fit that bill for an A choice. It was just a rock paper scissors sort of choice. And Rory ended up being +4...true to his opening round performance in pretty much any major. He may have cured his Augusta issue, but he's been a rookie ever since. Probably be another 14 years for his next major.Doug Ghim looks like me out there.
Weather been fantastic, and the winds appear to be still no more than breezes at this point in the day for an unprotected course. Not sure why no one is scoring now like the early rounds. Maybe the greens hardened up quicker than anticipated.I’m pretty sure this is what the expectation was. And like 95 said, today was probably the easiest setup.
JT is now +5. Gonna be some big name boys that have to score good tomorrow to stay near a cutline that could end up being as high as +4 range. Maybe higher if there's no grouping of low scores tomorrow.
54 golfers at +1 or better right now with alot of golf left today to change hte lineup. Not sure what the count is to establish the cut tomorrow.
Likely. As of this morning in the early Tee Ups, only 9 are under par, with only 7 additional at E. Too early to see the projected though. Not posted yet. Not sure how many golfers have to be out to start posting a projected cut. With the scores what they are now, wouldn't be surprised to see a +6 or +8.I’d wager the cut to be higher than +4
