Tennessee has landed another defensive back in the portal class as Miami defensive back
Jadais Richard picked the Vols on Sunday canceling a trip to Auburn.
“Man, I just couldn’t pass it up,” Richard said. “Jim Knowles and his defense, he’s proven and the proof is in the pudding. He just, has had the top ranked defense in the country for the past couple years, and that’s just something I can’t look over, look past. He’s put people in the league, I just feel like this is the best place for me.”
Richard is a bigger corner and he said the coaches pushed versatility.
“They said they will use me on the outside, inside, you know, all over just being a versatile player,” Richard said.
He was slated to visit Auburn but Tennessee kicked it into overdrive to get Richard in the boat.
“Oh man they were exited,” Richard said. “I felt it from the time I fkrst walked in the building . They welcome me in and I was just excited from the time I walked in and from the time I left and just the connection just been strong ever since I left. They haven’t even let me put my phone down, it just constantly calls. You know, just the love is there.”
And when he looked at the two schools, Tennessee just made sense.
“I think it was pretty much a no-brainer for me with I really with Coach Knowles coming in and just comparing the two defenses,” Richard said. “You know, and I just feel like just the Tennessee was just better for me.”
Richard spent Friday on Rocky Top making an official visit and he left impressed.
“They got great top of the line facilities,” Richard said. “I like how everything is set up with the coaching staff, the new coaching staff they brought in, with Coach Knowles, Coach Hunter and Coach Poindexter. I just think that they can really come in and change the trajectory of the defense with the proven stats that they have in multiple schools. That’s what that’s what really stuck out to me.”
In his three seasons with the Hurricanes, Richard made eight starts and amassed 46 tackles, three pass breakups and an interception. On his visit to Tennessee, Richard caught up with an old family friend in cornerbacks coach
Michael Hunter.
