2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Also I’ve said this elsewhere but if it’s a year to start a redshirt freshman, it’s this year. Should be a veteran oline, best WR room we’ve had in a LOOOONG time. Sure Nico had Squirell and Dante…no disrespect to either, they were both good WRs for us (White in 23, Thornton in 24) but I think it’s clear as day Staely and Mathews have much higher ceilings. And Tristan Keys is the most talented WR I’ve seen us land since Da’Rick. Hopefully he has his head in a better place. Plus Bishop is a 1000 yard rusher to help take the load off GMAC, Morris has home run threat potential, the kid from Tulane is a solid backup option as well.

The defense may be a bit shaky since it’s year 1 in a new system but I’m willing to bet it’s atill a drastic improvement from 25. Can’t be any worse. Play with a core coming from Penn State, the transition won’t be as bad. I’m thinking top 40 defense can be enough to win games this upcoming season. I think that’s attainable with the additions we added.

Sure Leavitt or Sorsby would have been great in this room, they probably make us a playoff lock nearly. But I think it’s clear the coaches believe in GMAC to be solid enough to win us games along with our revamped defense.
We of course do still need another QB, if just a backup. Time still to pick up a fairly good one. And, I'd think a good QB would want to come here with our offense and returning wide receivers.

The transfer portal schedule still boggles my mind. Image the NFL having free agency in the middle of the playoffs and it completely ends 3 days before the Super Bowl. Oh and then the two teams in the Super Bowl get a special window where other teams can try and take their players but they don’t get a special window to focus on the portal and take other teams players.

It reminds me of rules my 4 year old come up with to ensure he can win or have an advantage.
Nailed it! 🤯

Sure I would have thrown all the money at Ty. But if the kids dream is the NFL, his stock isn’t going to be higher than it is now in the weak class. But honestly…I lowkey think that whole family has a hate boner for UT. Would not be surprised if he flirted with us just to waste our time.
Yeah I think you got to kick the tires on Ty, but putting any eggs in that basket with the way this years draft is set up would not have been a good idea.

Of course we need a third guy, but I just don’t see any names out there’s that’s a clear upgrade over what potential we have in our two young guys.

I knew you meant 1000 touchdowns.
I’m beginning to think you’re like weezie. Keep the restless younguns stirred up until there’s some movement in porthole for us. 😁😂. Keep us on the edge of our seats, SF.

Seriously, I appreciate all the info you bring and the humor. Some on here has forgotten what that’s like. As someone that’s a veteran, I do know how to ‘hurry up and wait’

The grade is not the point, and I hope GMAC is wildly successful.

We’re all obviously on the outside looking in, but sitting here with 2 guys in the entire QB room with 9 college passes between them sure seems risky to me.

I didn’t even need Leavitt or Ty Simpson to make me feel better about the situation. Why not bring in a really productive senior FCS or D2 guy like Alonza Barnett, Amari Odom, or the Old Dominion QB to compete with GMAC and Faizon?
It's not ideal, no...of course, experience is great and something everyone would love to have, especially at QB. We took our swings at the "superstars" in the portal, and it didnt work out. However, countless times throughout the years, for countless schools, it hasn't played out perfectly, and true/redshirt freshmen have had to step up...and, many have been successful over many years.

Julian Sayin had thrown only 12 passes before this year; stepped in and completed 77% of his throws for over 3600 yards and 32 TDs.

In his 3 seasons prior, Ty Simpson had only thrown around 40/50 passes combined, before breaking out this year. Yes, he had seen much more action than George in those 3 years; but, he had not looked very good with those chances.

CJ Carr had never thrown the first pass in college, before completing 67% of his throws this year, for over 2700 yards and 27 total TDs.

CJ Stroud did not attempt a pass his freshman season, only seeing action in 2 games. His RFreshman season, he threw for over 4400 yards and 44 TDs, with only 6 picks, on 72% passing.

True Freshmen seasons...

Trevor Lawrence: 65% for 3300 yards and 30 TDs and only 4 INTs.

Sam Howell: 62% for over 3600 yards and 38 TDs and 7 INTs.

Jalen Hurts: 63% for 2800 yards and 23 TDs, and added 954 yards rushing with another 13 TDs. Almost 4000 total yards and 36 TDs.

I am not worried at all about George being the guy, and this is coming from a guy who was not impressed with him after watching his first game of his Sr season. Kept watching, and got impressed. Also, word coming out of last fall camp was he looked better than anyone, including Joey...just was too skinny; and, the reports continue to be nothing but positive about him...just has to put on weight. Word is, he can make any throw on the field, and his wheels are more than capable.

Now, we just need to go get some experience behind him and FB, just in case something does happen.

I mean I guess we can ride with gmac. Honestly what is the size difference between him and nico when he started. I'm pretty sure gmac can hand the ball off and I bet he can connect on the deep ball better than nico. Let's find a third and roll with it. If Nico can lead us to the playoffs then hopefully gmac can as well

Nico put on a lot of good weight during the spring and summer before 24. GMAC can do the same.

Hopefully he can, you know with all the rumors about him not being able to put on weight and all, but still nico wasn't huge. If we can get Elarbee to teach some pass pro maybe we'll be ok 🤞

Nico was bigger than people think, he’s just so tall he looks slim still but he had some muscle on him in 24. GMAC needs to get some gains. Hopefully whoever we hire as strength coach helps him get there

But is it Heupel is a "QB whisperer", or is it that his offense helps QBs look better? Maybe some consider those two the same? I think QB whisperer implies he fixes QBs, and I don't think he necessarily fixes them. I think his offense is simplified enough to make them look better than they are.
The good news: you can think whatever you want.
The bad news: you’re wrong.

Stop with all that common sense and rational thought.

This portal thread has gone to hell in a hand basket and I blame Jackcrevol. I’ve laughed mao and I’ve been dang near ready to yell at quite a few jacklegs.
We have a very nice portal haul so far and I believe we have upgraded the defense significantly. The oline received stability and upgrade, hopefully we’ll grab at least another DL and a backup Qb to finish. More than happy with all the staff has done, super glad we didn’t overspend for a 1 year BSQB.
Agree with all of this except last line. I don’t care what they spend, it’s not my money (except for the talent fee & the Vol Club $).
