2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

One thing I learned about VN many, many moons ago, You guys would rather get butthurt and offended than have an actual conversation.

Just throwing that out there. If people don't parrot your opinions, it normally comes with name calling and belittling rather than actual conversation.
This is not directed at you or anyone in particular, but sometimes some subjects are too stupid to have conversations about, like what's the point? So if people argue or get butthurt, it just means they think whatever point that's tryjng to be made is stupid. Discussing it is frustrating. I know that I am guilty of posting stupid crap more times than not. Don't take it personal, we all have stupid thoughts.

I want to believe. But we’ve got 2 QB’s that have thrown about 9 passes in a college football game between them, and the best we can do is bring in the 3rd string QB from Colorado. Nobody is giving that that portal effort an A+ no matter how you spin it.
For reference, Ohio state came into this season with Julian sayin as a RS Freshman who had thrown a total of 12 passes in his college career. His backup had thrown a total of 22 passes in his college career and had no stats in 2024.

Who cares about portal grade? If GMac is successful then the coaches will be praised. If the situation completely flops then Heupel will be firmly on the hot seat. It’s obvious the team and Heup has confidence in George.
The grade is not the point, and I hope GMAC is wildly successful.

We’re all obviously on the outside looking in, but sitting here with 2 guys in the entire QB room with 9 college passes between them sure seems risky to me.

I didn’t even need Leavitt or Ty Simpson to make me feel better about the situation. Why not bring in a really productive senior FCS or D2 guy like Alonza Barnett, Amari Odom, or the Old Dominion QB to compete with GMAC and Faizon?

If Leavitt was the only QB CJH saw and thought “he’s an upgrade over what I expect George to be” is it really that big of a strike out? Our offer to Leavitt by all means sounds like it was right there with LSUs. The kid just wanted to go to LSU. Sure maybe we wanted Sorsby you could argue but no one it outbidding Tech right now. They’re insane

Biggest difference is we had legit gorillas on the OL in 2024. We were also like 3 deep on the entire DL.

We don’t have that this year.

Heard: Gorilla
Karic: Gorilla
Cooper: Toy Gorilla
Spraggins: Ate the Gorilla
Campbell: Gorilla

Bailey / West
Thomas / Simmons
Eason / Lott / Hobbs
Pearce / Josephs / Herring
Heard:Injured out of shape Gorilla
Karic: MAYBE baboon but not Gorilla
Cooper: agree
Spraggins: regressed gorilla for whatever reason
Campbell: gorilla on bum knees

You whole OL theory shot

I will give you the DL argument

This portal thread has gone to hell in a hand basket and I blame Jackcrevol. I’ve laughed mao and I’ve been dang near ready to yell at quite a few jacklegs.
We have a very nice portal haul so far and I believe we have upgraded the defense significantly. The oline received stability and upgrade, hopefully we’ll grab at least another DL and a backup Qb to finish. More than happy with all the staff has done, super glad we didn’t overspend for a 1 year BSQB.

I wonder if there will be any surprise entries over the next day or 2? . . like a player who wanted to enter, but the coaches waited as long as possible to submit the papers, hoping to talk him out of it. Maybe not this year, but I bet we see something like that soon. . .

. . .maybe there is a superstar QB no one knows about, 😂

Players from Miami and Indiana will still have a window to enter from from 1/20-24. And 😆 on QB. Not thinking will be many enter from Indiana since they all have mortgages and grandkids.

Also I’ve said this elsewhere but if theres a year to start a redshirt freshman, it’s this year. Should be a veteran oline, best WR room we’ve had in a LOOOONG time. Sure Nico had Squirell and Dante…no disrespect to either, they were both good WRs for us (White in 23, Thornton in 24) but I think it’s clear as day Staely and Mathews have much higher ceilings. And Tristan Keys is the most talented WR I’ve seen us land since Da’Rick. Hopefully he has his head in a better place. Plus Bishop is a 1000 yard rusher to help take the load off GMAC, Morris has home run threat potential, the kid from Tulane is a solid backup option as well.

The defense may be a bit shaky since it’s year 1 in a new system but I’m willing to bet it’s still a drastic improvement from 25. Can’t be any worse. Playing with a core coming from Penn State, the transition won’t be as bad. I’m thinking top 40 defense can be enough to win games this upcoming season. I think that’s attainable with the additions we added.

Sure Leavitt or Sorsby would have been great in this room, they probably make us a playoff lock nearly. But I think it’s clear the coaches believe in GMAC to be solid enough to win us games along with our revamped defense.

The inherent issue with Taylor is he is in the boat of needing to be granted another year to play because current NCAA rules say he won't be. He never redshirted and played four years between Blinn and Florida, so he would be an awesome addition...if he's eligible. It's Joey Aguilar but on defense.
He has a better argument than Joey tho. His path is similar to Pavia where he played 2 years in JUCO and 4 years at a FBS school. This kid has 2 years in JUCO and only 2 years at a FBS school. Should be very likely he get a waiver for next year and possibly the season after. Would prefer a bigger IDL but we could do worst.

Joey also asking for a 7th season. Yikes.

The transfer portal schedule still boggles my mind. Image the NFL having free agency in the middle of the playoffs and it completely ends 3 days before the Super Bowl. Oh and then the two teams in the Super Bowl get a special window where other teams can try and take their players but they don’t get a special window to focus on the portal and take other teams players.

It reminds me of rules my 4 year old come up with to ensure he can win or have an advantage.

Hope so. Ty Simpson is only one out there I thought might be worth throwing more than $4 million at. I was more in favor spreading the money around to all the spots and bringing in a very productive senior from FCS or D2 to compete with GMAC and Brandon.

Sure I would have thrown all the money at Ty. But if the kids dream is the NFL, his stock isn’t going to be higher than it is now in the weak class. But honestly…I lowkey think that whole family has a hate boner for UT. Would not be surprised if he flirted with us just to waste our time.

I also wonder what Heupel learned from 24 starting a young quarterback that he can apply and be better at in 26.
