2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Isn't this basically the same situation as the Washington QB and LSU? I dont see this going differently.
It will only go differently if
A. The contract terms aren't as strict or a loophole is exposed

B. The monetary burden to make Duke whole and land him is worth it.

UT isn't alone on trying to thread the needle on the clearinghouse. OSU, MI, UGA are all in similar boats. No one knows yet what's going to happen to schools that push through preposterous NIL deals or fail to submit parts altogether. Does it make any sense at all for a program still under sanctions to be leading that charge?

No it doesn't.

A lot of you always want everything. No one gets everything. TTU spent everything and they have crap to show for it.

As best I can tell UT is trying to do a lot in all directions. They're doing a pretty damn good job overall.

I get being pissed we haven't done more and I know there were misses, but some of you seem to be most excited when we fail.

I remember some of those old posters that would come on and rub everyone's noses in perceived failures. The funny part is they used to hold up coaches or programs as examples that 10 years later never did ****. 🤣 example: A&M and Sumlin was the golden guy not long ago.

The older I get the more I see the programs doing best have a macro view. The fans that can see the macro view tend to have more joy too.
The NCAA will do nothing about NIL deals. It doesnt matter if the deals are on the books or not. They would just get sued again and lose because of the antitrust laws. They will do nothing cause they can do nothing.

Thamel tweeting about Mensah too. Definitely something going on here.

I want to believe we’ll make a run at him but just can’t see us outbidding Miami if that offer is real. That’s a crazy deal that you ultimately cant fully fault someone for taking.

What I can confidently say: I'm sure Trippie will be very excited about the possibility.

Doesn't appear UT is all that active with other portal guys despite our needs so they have excess money to spend, no?

Might be 4d chess from Spanky to save his pennies and snatch the Dook qb right out from under the Canes? Yep. I'm sure that's what's happening.

So now the narrative is that we have money, but wont spend it because we don't contact people under the table? Thanks for not cheating, Danny White

Thank you so much for this 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This sport is changing every single year, and right now everyone is throwing **** at the wall and hoping it sticks. The truth is, there is not one definitive way to SUSTAINABLY exist as consistent championship contenders.

. People propped up Ohio state, Texas, Texas Tech as the ideal strategies over the last couple of years. Ohio state had the $20 million roster and yeah they won a championship, but they're absolutely bleeding of players this offseason. Texas and Texas Tech spent more than ever thought possible last year and then disappointed when it matters most. It's going to take years before anyone discovers the true "right way" to do things.

There is zero doubt that a lot of these sketchy moves are going to come under fire. There are way too many unqualified "agents" who don't know what they're doing and I'm guessing a large percentage of these "back channel" conversations aren't legal. The truth is, we are under probation. Violating probation always leads to worse penalties. Post-season bans, less scholarships, less visitors, and show-cause penalties are all punishments given for violating probation. We are right at the finish line of this BS which has heavily hindered recruiting since Heupel has been here, so why mess it up right at the end.

Tennessee is going to keep everything they do quiet because of how much unnecessary scrutiny they've been put under. I contacted every available email address and phone number in the UT AD to get a statement about the probation and every single response was "we will not be commenting on this subject at this time." They are taking this stuff seriously because they are so close to not being under the microscope of the NCAA.

Maybe we haven't been getting the best possible immediate on-field results, but when you consider an ever-changing landscape combined with all that the AD and coaches have to account for from the previous administration's mistakes, I'd say that a top 10 recruiting class, hiring a championship winning DC and the best safeties coach in the league, and getting one of the highest averaged portal classes in the country is a damn good offseason for an 8-4 team whose trying to take the next step.
