2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Not aimed at you, but the information on our QB situation for Tennessee has been scarce, with not even AP having a good read. I find it hard to believe Basilio of all people is getting solid info on what went down.
Not to discount the idea that Basilio is clown shoes most of the time, but I will say that one difference in him and AP is that Basilio is not afraid to run with information that the AD would prefer to keep quiet because he isn’t dependent on access to the department like AP/Hubbs/VolQuest. Those guys and guys like Jimmy Hyams rely on access and sometimes feel limited on what they are allowed to discuss publicly. Basilio doesn't care and leads to him throwing out sometimes baseless theories and sometimes info that the AD would prefer be left under wraps.

Why would the AD be dealing with baseless theories? And why would they care about keeping a baseless theory quiet?

Baseless theories refers to Tony's own beliefs. Sometimes he formulates his own theories and throws them out there speaking with some sort of authority on the topic.

Tl;dr version, he sometimes passes his opinion off as fact.

Admittedly, I now see how my post was poorly worded.

Some posted he was homesick. Guess he's looking for opportunities closer to family. Can't fault him for that.
That’s a new one!

Maybe he will get closer to home/family.
Hopefully not like the last one to leave and say that. He went even farther from home.

Are there a lot of examples of freshman and redshirt freshman having successful seasons in the SEC?

I mean, sure, can Trevor Lawrence with an SEC talented supporting cast excel when the rest of the ACC is cheeks? Can Julian Sayin, with the most talented roster in the Big 10, have success when each week he's playing far inferior opponents?

Say what you want about the SEC being down blah blah blah - the most talented players are generally in the SEC. The best coaches, generally speaking, are in the SEC. And week in week out its a meat grinder.

I don't think the schedule next year, nor is our roster set up to where, if we went with G-Mac at QB next year that we would have what we all consider a "successful season." I honestly believe we'd be looking at a ceiling of 8 wins. How patient would the fan base be with that? I'm guessing considering so many voltwitter idiots, as well as the idiots in the stadium sitting near me on game days, that they'd be calling for our staff and ADs heads.

Unfortunately, we're kind of in a situation where there doesn't seem to be much else out there. I'm not sure what we do.

But to answer your question - maybe a team who has elite coaching and an elite roster (Georgia comes to mind) would be able to roll out there with a freshman QB and survive the season. Pretty much everyone else would struggle.

In fact, I'm not even sure I remember the last time a SEC team started a freshman QB and had a great year. But I can guarantee you whoever did, he had an elite roster surrounding him and the QB was more of a bus driver than anything else.

2024 - South Carolina was very very close to making the playoffs just last year with Sellers who was a RS-Fr.. We did make the playoffs with a RS-Fr..

Smh...people will latch onto any reason to bash Basilio because he is annoying. Nobody knew exactly how the QB market was going to play out. If a few QBs decided to stay for their senior year or if a few others got a 6th year, it could have drastically changed the scenario.
Not bashing Basilio as I have no opinion either way. But in this instance I call BS. I can say I ran the 40 in 4.8 at 50 years of age. You cannot prove me wrong as their is no evidence to refute. Would you believe me?
