2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

I will never, and I mean NEVER, understand why it is a "huge ask" for a R-FR to come in to UT and lead us to a successful season, yet we have examples around the country of FR and R-FR who come in to other P4 schools and start and do well.....

Someone please help me understand why it is so different for UT....

I think it’s possible for FR to succeed. It’s just not preferable to depend on it.

But two of the top 5 QBs in passer rating this year were FR/RFR - Saiyin and Carr.

The Cal and BYU kids were also notable.

Still, generally speaking, you need a great team to succeed with a FR, but an experienced QB can make a good team great.

Mendoza and Pavia are examples.

SIAP or even commented on by someone in the know, but…

Is it a foregone conclusion that Aguilar will be ineligible for another year? Or is there a glimmer of hope here for another season ? If TJ Finley can be on team #7, why shouldn’t JA have an opportunity?

Wait! I knew I didn’t hear anything else about a portal entry for one of our safety’s. So VQ says he has been retained. 🧐 @TrippieRedd lol

Yes keep adding talent and just get a flyer QB to backup GMac. Unless a top notch QB hits portal.
I have thoughts on that wild swing of a QB. It's a reach down the divisions, but if you're looking for experience and a brief lease on a QB I have a name I like: Josh Ehrlich from Susquehanna. I know, it's a massive leap from D-III to the FBS, but you are talking about a redshirt senior who is a two-time semifinalist for the D-III equivalent of the Heisman with 7,480 passing yards and 78 touchdowns against 13 interceptions while completing 68% as a three year starter, and for good measure he also has 2,294 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on 5.1 yards per carry and has caught a touchdown too because of course he did. Even if he doesn't end up starting, you have a veteran addition in the QB room with the youngsters. I have no reason to think the coaches go this route, but if you want to take that Trinidad Chambliss wild shot this is an intriguing option.

I think fans/media in general underestimate how big keeping your best players on the roster is. People get so caught up in portal players that they assume it’s already better than what’s on the roster. Caleb Herring was here for 3 years. Was an ok player here with underwhelming production. He’s in the portal and he has top 10 programs coming after him.
It's also possible that those other top programs see a poorly coached player that they can fix and take to another level.

sure! And I'm sure we feel the same in instances, no coach can avoid those types of evals. For every Miles Kitselman there are a few Josh Schells

But when a kid isn't working for you, it's time to move on

Not foregone, but another reason why only picking up an FCS guy makes the most sense.

Aguilar potentially becomes a scratch off win you weren't planning on.

This is Agard he is not as tall or big as A Scott from OSU, but he has more on field production. Even played as a freshman.
4 star producer vs 5 star talent. Would love to see both at UT, but also interesting to see which direction staff goes.

Scott played for our new CB coach last season at OSU and also signed with Knowles out of high school. Assume he's the preferred of the two.

I believe ap said we want 2-3 CBs still. That saying it would be hard to get both imo

Scott and Mathis are the two must lands on the board atm
Obviously I will trust G, but I don't really see it with Mathis. He's not particularly big and he's coming off his freshman season, too. And while the latter point means we potentially have him for a long time (a plus) it also means he's not the big strong old guy that teams are winning with right now. He's basically another Campbell/Utley, which again is good for the future pipeline but we need dudes who are ready NOW. JMO of course, but I'd like to see one more 1-year rental get added to the DL one way or the other.

I think we should just roll him out. What is the NCAA going to do?

How do I get some of that Celiac? I need to stop gaining mass
I know you're joking here. But I'm going to reply to it anyways.

Celiac doesn't really have anything to with losing weight. It primarily just means that you are allergic to gluten, which is in almost all bread and a lot of pastas. You can just switch to a low carb diet, without having celiac, and get the same effect.

Celiac is also an auto-immune disease, which isn't something you want, as it puts you at higher risk for other auto-immune diseases.

Yep. Grab the best FCS guy we can get to compete with G-Mac. Hope that Joey's case gets resolved successfully in the meantime.
