I’m still a little nervous ab OL, especially if we’re going young at QB.Studying our returning players mixed in with the transfers and I'm feeling very confident about next season. We are going to end up having a much older and vastly more experienced team.
Our issues were more youth and defensive coaching than anything. Even the offense was relatively young. In a down year we should have beaten UGA. We are a lot closer than what it felt like after the MCB IMO.
We are really just a few more pieces away from having a very complete team on paper.
Feel good about every position except...QB right now...ugh
We're down to fantasizing about QBs entering the portal sometime in the next 3 days. It's clear we had no real QB strategy, which both baffles and alarms me. If it happens, great, but if that's what we're banking on, that's a risky strategy.
Yeah, it's like we can't grasp that we don't have control over what other teams might do to upend our strategy. Don't get your preferred internet player, conclusion "staff didn't have a strategy". I assume we should start kidnapping players and making them come to Tennessee regardless of the situation. It's just a tiresome, lazy argument that has no nuance. Now with that being said, Weezer is a good guy and likes to create chaos and panic so I take what he say's with that filter in mind. Staff has a lot going on and the board is changing non stop and you have no idea what your competitors might do or be willing to pay. Also, layer in the fact that you have to be careful not to disrupt the current players on your roster and it is literally an impossible task. Almost every school is finding this environment extremely difficult, including some of the biggest blue bloods in the sport. Obviously none of that makes for good internet, snarky, gotcha quotes.I like you but if you believe this, you must be on meds. It may not be what you think it will be or it may be such. They have a strategy. It may not work out the ultimate way they want but they are not just floating around like idiots. If we have to go to plan z, we will. Does not mean we had no strategy. If we end up starting Mac or faz cheese as game managers with great D, then so be it. We are loading up on D. It is what wins championships.
It's not tampering if Spyre is doing the sales pitch for us.Unless Heupel feels great about George or Faizon for next year (and the fight to get Leavitt likely says no), I think you have to walk somebody in the portal at this point.
One of my concerns with Heup after the season was sense of urgency and if he would make the necessary changes. He certainly did that with the defensive staff firings/hirings.
He’s also done that with the defensive portal haul so far. It’d really be a shame if we did so much good but couldn’t get a solution to the most important position on the field for next year.
I don’t know how much the rumors are true that we aren’t tampering due to the NCAA stuff. But if we are being conservative, and you’re Heup, you almost have to do what you have to do for your job and teams sake. Even if that means going behind your AD to get it done.
Again, that’s hypothetical, but I hope he continues to show urgency and gets it done.
Maybe Joey A gets the favorable ruling, albeit delayed, and comes back. Not getting resolution on that is frustrating for us as fans, can't imagine how frustrating it is for him and the coaches.
We're on probation. One that almost crippled us. And for barely over $50,000 in payments to players. Meanwhile the coach who did it will be able to coach again while we're still dealing with the fallout. The NCAA is known to play favorites and we certainly aren't one of them. Our compliance is the reason why they didn't throw the book at us. No reason to screw it up at the finish lineThe NCAA doesn't care, Lane just got caught publicly tampering with a signee. If they're going to enforce selectively you take them to court and tell them sit and spin. The NCAA is on life support, waiting to be broken.
Would trying to get Merk back as a last resort make any sense? I wasn’t super impressed with him going into this season, but as a backup who already knows the system? Have the three battle it out to hopefully muster something good out in the end?
