2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

I think every Spring/Fall is a qb competition. We have two very talented young QB's in a world where the data proves that older/proven players must lead at your top positions. This is most important at QB. While the competition is genuinely open, the outcome is usually that the old guys with serious experience are the best solution. This is true in most cases at the best programs. The two teams playing for the championship are examples as are the teams that over performed this year. By that logic, we did not properly address that need. I think GMac is an excellent young qb, and Brandon is perceived as a once a decade talent. One of them might be ready to go next year, but we're putting unnecessary pressure on the position if we play them before they are ready. That can physically or mentally damage a qb. I think we're better equipped than most years because our defense will be able to give us a chance in most games. That said, I still think we need an experienced, durable, successful qb in the room. We had a pretty diversified plan, with a few good options, but we didn't go to the end of the earth to execute that plan. Certain prices and conditions were perceived to be too much. All that said, Heupel and staff know this better than any of us. He's a former Heisman runner up qb, qb coach, OC, offensive thinker etc. He'll have to find a third guy. I hope the third guy is someone we can start and win with, but it might be a different formula this year. We may have to lean on GMac and do our best to protect him, with guy three on the bench. Dunno. I still believe they have some cards we haven't seen, but I don't know. Information around QB is very tight. I am finding out everything after the fact. I knew about Ty very early, but information became very tight during Leavitt discussions for obvious reasons. Kiffin was going to meet and beat any offer he got.
Make sure the RB room is ready. Let them carry the load.

One thing is for sure. If a QB enters the portal in the next three days, that's likely our guy. If no new names pop up, then things will get really interesting.

Any starter from FCS will want to be a starter in FBS. So how many senior backup QBs are currently in the portal?

Searching around on twitter about Devon Dampier and it doesn’t seem like he’s ever said whether or not he’s returning to Utah. He’s not in the portal, but he’s been suspiciously quiet.

Some expected him to follow Whitt to Michigan but they are committed to Underwood.

We just saw Moa hop in the portal. I’m all over this Dampier guy if I’m Heupel. He’s like a healthier, faster Leavitt.
I’m surprised that Dampier hasn’t put his name in the portal at this point. The announcers on Utah’s bowl game mentioned Dampier may leave because they were subbing their freshman QB quite a bit. I guess we’ll see how dissatisfied he really is.

Timeline? If he’s ready by fall easy take. Vetran QB don’t need Spring.
He'll be ready by fall practice, but Achilles tears are hard to come back from right away. Granted, running isn't really part of his game.

Truth. We have “hole” cards that no one except a very select few have seen. I want to believe there is either a flip forthcoming or a last-minute entry into the portal that becomes our third QB option.

Re: CJ Bailey. There are rumors Kiffin/LSU tried to get him to enter the portal a few weeks back but he said he wanted to stay at NC State.
With the rumors flying around about how much we were willing to spend on Leavitt, I do wonder if it makes some of these guys reconsider.
