2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Basilio reported today that we aren’t tampering bc we are in “probation”

I’m not sure if that’s true but I find it interesting and if someone else that plays QB doesn’t enter the portal and end up here before it’s all said and done I’m going to believe it
That’s not what he said. He said they are doing this like they are still on probation and playing strictly by all the rules

Like @TrippieRedd suggested , should go after one of these lower tier QB's and let them manage the game and concentrate on defensive side of ball..
At this point, I'm not all that concerned about the QB position. But, it will be interesting to see how 'Leavitt to Beaver' will do next year. Will the foot be an issue? Did a team sink 7 mill in to a QB that just isn't what he once was? I believe the team will get the QB position where it needs to be next year.

It’s not my money but if we pay 6-7 million and get Jim the pressure on Michael to get in the playoffs next season will be immense. He better win big or it will get UGLY. Seems like the biggest gamble during my long time as a fan. We also have no idea what is real or make believe because everyone has an agenda and there’s no transparency.
Welcome to the new college football.

He will get his comeuppance, either in this life or the next. People like him only "win" for so long
He has yet to win anything that matters, aside from a pay day.

That might be the ultimate comeuppance, constantly burning every bridge imaginable to get ahead, only to never win anything and having a tarnished reputation to show for it.

You and I have very different definitions of fun.
I think how fun one finds it hinges on how seriously one takes it. I enjoy the ebbs and flows of fan reaction and the pursuit, but I don't like seeing my friends get stressed out or even turned off by all the transfer portal nonsense. I take it for what it is and just don't get overly invested in any one player or even position. I'll wait and evaluate when the roster is set.

I thought that would've happened after the USC fiasco, but it didn't. One thing is for certain, if he tries to do the Cajuns dirty the same way he did us and Ole Miss, they'll make sure nobody can find what's left of him.

Because those who have poured into the coffers the most want a return on investment. They won't continue to give just to achieve mediocrity. They expect to make the playoffs.

Some think struggling next year could cost Heupel his job. I'm of the opinion struggling next year means the 2027 season will be make or break for him. I'm not saying it's wrong or right, just that coaching is a result driven business, especially now that paying players is involved.

😆 get it. Was tongue in cheek. It's every year, though. Sky falls, sky rises, falls again...... I follow it all but just don't get too invested in it. Last week when I was excited that we were in it for Leavitt the dominating opinion was he had a bad injury and we should stay away. Now that big programs want him too, the whole narrative has changed. Is just odd to me and I'm here for it.

We will be ok. Massive defensive pickups and a proven DC. Least of my worries are what CJH comes up with on offense.

I agree with your take generally speaking. I mean, a retched season obviously would spell the end, but I suspect 6-9 wins means a hot seat and massive expectations for 2027, especially if we have to go young at QB. That would buy him some leeway for struggles between inexperience at quarterback and the new defensive install, but win big or leave is coming like a freight train. A first round playoff exit in 2024 only gets you so much extra leash.

It's clear to me that agents are using us to drive up the prices for their clients. At some point, we just need to walk away.
That's been our MO in other bidding war situations.

So it is a little frustrating to hear 'going all in' on leavitt and the Bama duo, and then go ofer.

This whole 'system' really does suck.

Not everyone can be, nor should be, the Yankees every year building a roster.

got benched for a true freshman right?

Got hurt and they won some games with the frosh and they stuck with the hot hand. Similar thing happened at Mizzou with Zollers, but he was clearly in over his head and they went back to Pribula.

I think our playmakers will be seriously wasted if we trot out Pribula.
