2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Maybe you, CamVol8 and a few other sky is falling types can scrape together 3 or 4 more mil and get us one of them. There will be a few other names pop up before all is said and done.
I just said the defense looks good and we did a good job. Being based in reality doesn't mean I think the sky is falling. That shtick is so old and annoying. Anything but sunshine and rainbows and we have hurt feelings.

How do you arrive at that, though? If Aguilar tells Tennessee he wants $4 or $5 million, is he worth it? I don't think so, but we will likely end up paying it. What someone is worth is extremely subjective in this environment. No college kid is worth that, to me, but it doesn't mean he won't get it.

If he gets another year of eligibility, Joey Aguilar may be seen as a patron saint for not entering the portal and simply returning to Tennessee for a modest raise. But in reality, he'd be foolish to not enter the transfer portal and make Tennessee (or some other school) pay top dollar. And I say that as someone who isn't blown away by his ability, but also recognizes that his 2025 salary relative to prodiction is a total bargain compared to what QBs are making on the open market just a year later.

To put that further into perspective, Hendon Hooker allegedly got $1 million to return to Tennessee for his final season just 4 years ago.
If Joey eligible id gues 2.5 mil. That saying he might save huepels job. If he thinks of it thst way. Yes hes worth it. No i dont want josh to leave at all. I remember the suffering of the previous decade.

Let’s take some of that money we were going to sling at Leavitt and get another piece on the o-line and then some defensive depth. Of course we will need some of it for whoever we sign at the QB position.

Never once acted like that lol. I said I love what we’re doing on defense, but i’m not talking myself into Pribula.

You’re missing one BIG thing. What other QBs are left?

When you have nothing left in the portal and we can assume no other top QBs are going to enter.

If Joey comes to you and ask for 4mil, yes he’s worth it. Especially when you consider our situation and what’s left to pick from.

I am all for players getting their worth, but JA could play himself into the NFL if he stays here and cuts down on his turnovers.

Joey at 2.5 would be value for Tennessee at this point. If I'm his agent, I'd advice him to go portaling because others will pay more, IMO. And Tennessee would, too. He holds all the cards given the teams who still need a QB and the apparent available options.

Joey would have all the leverage in the world. Tennessee has no other option but to pay him if you miss on Leavitt. And I don’t believe Pribula is coming here unless he is the starter. Hence why he is visiting Virginia after Morris was deemed out of eligibility.

Leverage or not, Aguilar isn't a 4 million a year guy. He played his best under this staff and that wasn't a coincidence. He needs us as well.

Besides, he was largely mid in the back half of the year. And one thing I was reminded of recently in watching Brazell highlights - Aguilar threw a lot of balls up that had no business being caught. Rewatch the UGA highlights or that fourth down pass vs.... was it Miss State? There were some poorly placed or just wild heaves up there that the receivers made insane catchees on. Brazell had no business catching some of those balls but he did. Which again, baffles me as to why he isn't getting any first round buzz but thats another discussion.

So Joey Aguilar is worth $4 million but Sam Leavitt isn't? What that tells me is that you've been in favor of Aguilar over Leavitt the whole time. Is that what you're saying?

Yes, absolutely.

Joey doesn’t have quite the injury Leavitt does.

Again, Joey is worth that if he ask.

Y’all sound like my boss: it’s all compliments during the season, then nothing but negativity when it comes time for annual pay negotiations

The difference…one is worth the money and the other is not
At this MOMENT Aguilar is the best option if he wins his case but if he could've entered the Portal like the rest of the QB's did at beginning of portal season, do you think he would've ranked in top 10 QB's available?

Defensive haul on track to be legendary. Just have to close.

Offensive pieces are there BUT if we’re going to roll with GMac or BP then IMO we’ve got to at least land one more experienced OL because the run game is going to be even more important.

Maybe into a FA deal, but I have a hard time seeing him being drafted unless he just had something close to a Heisman type season. He'd be a 26-yr old rookie in 2027. The NFL values youth like any other professional sports league, but Aguilar would be almost 30 years old before his rookie contract expired.

Additionally, he's been turnover-prone every season and at multiple stops. I think we just have to assume and maybe live with the idea that he is looser with the ball than we'd care for.

That being said, I'm fully aware that he may be our best option at this point. I'm certainly not turning my nose up at the idea of him for another year.
