Rumors have it that Pribula’s NIL is $37.24. Bargain Basement deals. This is correct, but Aguilar also threw 23 touchdowns as opposed to 11, so there is some additional cause for hesitation and concern.
My take is this: Pribula isn't the worst option. The worst option is adding nobody. If he is where we go, you have to have an open competition in the spring. I think this is Tennessee covering their bases and looking at all options because of the uncertainty with Leavitt and Aguilar. That is the correct move to explore all options. I can't pretend to be excited about this possibility though.
He might start but I bet he will have to compete for the job. He’s simply not in the category of others being discussed. I tend to think a backup plan in case Joey isn’t granted the injunction. I might be naive but I still think it ends up being Joey. I am also a sunshine pumper and want to speak it into existence.I agree but some think he transferring to start. We have to get a 3rd QB no doubt. Everyone we have discussed were going to be the starter.
We need a back up. GMac goes down, you only have FB. If Heup goes this route then I’m trusting him like I trusted him with rolling with Staley and MM last offseason. This kid gets paid to be QB2/3 depending how good FB look in spring.
AgreedFor those defending Pribula due to his running ability:
He ran for 297 yards to Joey's 101 and had 6 rushing TD's to Joey's 4. He is not a Johnny Manziel or Diego Pavia.
He also ranked 14th in the league in passing yards and 15th in TD passes.
If he is your contingency plan with that gauntlet of a schedule next season we are in big trouble.
-VQTennessee continues to work on defensive targets as the transfer portal cycle wages on, and the Vols are set to host Georgia DB transfer Joenel Aguero starting on Saturday night, sources tell Volquest.
Aguero’s intentions to enter the transfer portal were announced on Wednesday, and a number of schools have already shown interest in him since.
Aguero, a former top-50 recruit, began his high school career at St. John’s Preparatory School (Mass.) before transferring to IMG Academy (Fla.) for his junior season. He returned to St. John’s to finish his career as a senior.
He chose to sign with Georgia over a host of suitors coming out of the prep ranks.
In three seasons in Athens, Aguero played a key part in the Bulldogs secondary and multiple SEC title runs. He posted 80 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception.
This season, Aguero appeared in 13 games, including 12 starts for the Bulldogs. He totaled 39 tackles and an interception.
Aguero was regarded as an early round talent coming out of high school.
“Head-hunting, twitched-up safety who is arguably the biggest hitter in the 2023 cycle. Delivers crushing blows over the middle of the field. Explodes into ball carriers and receivers. A top athlete who tests very well in the combine setting. Ran a 4.48 electronically-timed 40-yard dash prior to his junior season. Was considered the top athlete on the loaded IMG Academy defense as a junior. At his best when he can use his athleticism and physicality to play fast and move forward as a cover down defender. More of a strong safety type at this stage. Not overly long with sub 31-inch arms and may not have much more room for growth on his 5-foot-11 frame. Will need to continue developing his man coverage skills. Flashed some two-way playmaking ability as a senior after transferring home to St. John’s Prep, where he saw some time on offense.” – Charles Power, Rivals’ director of scouting and rankings
I agree that he's not ideal but would be better than nothing. For those defending Pribula due to his running ability:
He ran for 297 yards to Joey's 101 and had 6 rushing TD's to Joey's 4. He is not a Johnny Manziel or Diego Pavia.
He also ranked 14th in the league in passing yards and 15th in TD passes.
