There’s nothing wrong with Leavitt in a vacuum. If we had hit on 4 more defensive players over the last two days, the complainers would pick Leavitt up at the airport. They automatically assume that if we get him we will have nothing left for D. That remains to be seen.

New defensive staff is not off to a good start. Not at all.

And if they don’t secure talent, in the next few years we’ll talk about an unavoidable exodus in 2026 to give them additional time when the defense is poor.

Biggest issue with Leavitt is he will not be available for spring practice. That puts him at a big disadvantage. He’s also coming off a tough injury and could easily reinjure it. I think LSU backed off.

The “everything is perfect crowd” won’t like that.

You can't convince me the way this has played out isn't the absolute worst case scenario our staff envisioned. Make me wonder if we expected key Penn St players to follow Knowles and they never materialized.

What I don't get is if we aren't lining up and signing defensive players in the posthole....... Why not pay our own players to stay?

I'm not sure where the disconnect is but we are failing to set the bar, much less lift it. We look incompetent.

I don't have any thing to add. I don't want to be critical of josh. again this is a career defining portholio for him. It's hard to see him bring successful past this this season, it just gets too hard from here. you cannot go into an offseason with zero plan, and lose more defensive players off your bad defense than you're adding. it's simple numbers

There is always a limit to every market. Would love to see a stats guy analyze the likely increases and total shuffle. If you think about it there will only be so many teams that can overpay for so many players. On QB we've seen a 50% max increase, but that was for ~1% of qb's.

I want, and we need, Josh to succeed. My only hope from here is that we can Moneyball a decent defense from the thousands of also-rans remaining in the portal.

I will say, we seem to be just one of a large group of schools struggling in the portal so far.
